Announcement of Samudayotsava 2020 Awards for five including a Lifetime Achiever

Udupi: Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh has organized for the first time in the history of Udupi Diocese level historical “Samudayotsava 2020” on January 19, 2020 at the Mount Rosary Church grounds in Kallianpur.

Journalist John D’Souza, Kundapur (mass media), progressive farmer Julian Danti (paddy farming), social worker Roshan D’Souza Belman (Social Services), graft doctor Jerome Francis Andrade Kalmadi (home medicine) were selected in the categories. John DeSilva, Cooperatives leader has been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The selection process of the awards has been transparent and has been selected by a six-member selection committee chaired by its immediate past president, Valerian Fernandes. The selection process is based on applications from all 52 churches in the diocese. The award winners will be presented at the closing ceremony of the Samudyasava -2020, which will take place on January 19 at 2.30 pm.
At the same time, Udupi will be honored for the past two years, for those who have accomplished in foreign countries, the Director of Co-operative Societies and APMCs, Gazetted and higher level officials and Christian leaders serving in various organizations.

The inauguration of the convention will be held at 9.30 am and will be inaugurated by Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese and former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Margaret Alva will be the chief guest. Former legislator and retired KS officer JR Lobo will give a keynote address on the current state and future of the Christian community.

The program included former Governor of Uttarakhand Margaret Alva, Udupi, Bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bangaluru Arch-diocese Bishop Most Rev Dr. Peter Machado, Mangalore diocese Bishop Most Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, Retired KAS Officer Anthony Mendonca,  Gabriel Vaz, Senior Journalist, Janet D’Souza, Senior Political Leader of Maharashtra, Ivan D’Souza, Member of Legislative Council, Christian Development Authority president  Joylas D’Souza, Mumbai Model Co-operative President Albert D’Souza, M. C Bank Chairman Anil Lobo, Several religious, social and political leaders, will attend the conference.

Introduction of award laureates :

John D’Souza Kundapur (mass media): John D’Souza, a resident of Koni of Kundapur  in Udupi district, has been working as a Kundapur Taluk correspondent for Vijaya Karnataka daily and has contributed to social awareness by writing articles in Vijayakarnataka, Jai Konkani and Kundaprabha Newspapers. He has been awarded the Rajesh Shibaja Award by the Karnataka Journalists Association in 2011, the Udupi District Rajyotsava Award in 2016 and the State Journalists Association in 2017.

Julian Dhanti Udyavar (Paddy Farming): Born into a farming family with almost 100 years of history, Julian Dhanti has been cultivating paddy in 4 acres with coconut, nut and pepper cultivation in his 3 acres. The buffaloes still using for cultivation of paddy, and only organic manure is used for farming. His farming achievement has been rewarded by the Udupi Taluk level farmer.

Roshan D’Souza Belman (Social Service): Roshan D’Souza Belman, a champion of music, singing, acting, anchor and social service, started a trust called Humanity in 2017 and has provided financial assistance to more than 400 disabled families in various districts of Karnataka in just a short time. Through his Humanity Trust he is providing housing for the homeless, treatment for the poor, educational assistance for the poor, protection of the environment, assistance for AIDS patients and auspicious persons.

Jerome Francis Andrade Kalmadi (Home Medicine): Jerome Francis Andrama of Kalmadia is a pro-agronomist and is leading the recovery of jaundice. He has been in this profession since his 25th year and has been assisted by many to date.

John D’Silva (Lifetime Achievement Award): John D’Silva, a resident of Sanur, a Karkala taluk, has made Mumbai a place of business after his education and specializes in banking. He is the founder and co-founder of the Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which led to the emergence of several banking institutions. With several awards already awarded for his service, students of the Udupi diocese are being championed by the Catholic Sabha every year through his John D’Silva Foundation to ensure that students are not deprived of education.
