Udupi: The Udupi district has a much needed rain water harvesting program in the Udupi housing complex which is model work.  The district will be inspired by other housing complexes in the district, said District Collector G Jagadeesh.

He was speaking after the inauguration of rain water harvest at Sai Radha Enclave near Udupi Residential complex, Police ground near here on Tuesday, February 17 said that we are responsible for raising the groundwater level and the water we use by systematically searching for open wells and piped wells preventing rain from falling in the rainy season.

Water is seen as gold in the pulse and drip water is being used very subtly. The importance of the water has been realized and the recycling of the Kindi Dam has been stored in the river in Udupi. Activities such as rain harvesting should occur in large numbers in the district. The district administration will stand along with those who are in such social work.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Water Refueling Unit at the pipeline, District Panchayat Operating Officer Preethi Gehallot said the district receives more than 4000 mm of rainfall every year. However, the district is experiencing summer water shortages. Therefore, the water conservationist is above all of us. She said the open well and piped well water treatment program would serve as a guide for all.

Udupi Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer and Agriculture Department’s Assistant Director Mohan Raj released the logo, Water Awareness-Water Conservation-Water Re-Loading Logo.

Arun Kumar, project director of Nirmitti Center, released a pamphlet on water conservation.

District Kannada Rajyotsava Award winner,  Ratnashri Joseph GM Rebello said, that in this residential complex, rain water that falls on the terrace during the rainy season is piped up with gravel, sand and sponge to be treated as synthetically purified, wells and borewell water. He gave about rain harvesting information.

The event was attended by Sai Radha Enclave Udupi Housing Society President N Krishnaswamy Bhat, Treasurer Satish Bhat, District Governor of Lions Club and others.
