Udupi : The office of the Udupi Diocese Bishop’s House,  Udupi released an official statement as on Saturday, March 21, on Fr. Mahesh D’Souza suicide case after submitting the inquiry report to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kundapur by the investigation officer.

The press release says that as follows :

 “The diocese of Udupi appreciates the objective and impartial investigation carried out by the Law Enforcing Agencies, especially the Police, into the untimely death of the Assistant Parish Priest of Shirva Parish and the Principal of Don Bosco English Medium School Fr Mahesh D’Souza”.

The investigation conducted in a very detailed manner, as indicated from the Report submitted before the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kundapur, comprising a total of 1580 pages with a 202-page summary, would reflect that, 95 witnesses have been inquired and their statements have been recorded, reports of the forensic experts, post-mortem report from the doctors, reports of the audio and video analysis experts, have been received and analyzed, and personally verified the circumstantial pieces of evidence, and thereby have arrived at the following conclusions:

1. The death of Fr Mahesh occurred between 8.50 pm and 9.05 pm on 11.10.2019 in the office of the Principal.

2. The death was a suicide by hanging, not a murder or any other cause, abetted by the telephonic threat of a person who was angered by the chats between his wife and Fr Mahesh.

3. Fr Mahesh had a suicidal tendency and had attempted suicide thrice in the past.

4. The allegations regarding the proposed transfer, ill-treatment by the parish priest, etc. have been proved to be baseless.

5. Apart from the above, it is reiterated that the investigation concludes that none of the following, i.e., Fr Vincent Robert Crasta, Fr Denis Alexander D’Sa, Fr Ashwin Aranha, the Bishop and Alwyn Dominic Danthi, are in any manner not responsible for the suicide of Fr Mahesh.

As the facts have been laid bare by the Police Investigation Report, there remain no doubts regarding the cause of the demise of Fr Mahesh.

The Diocese of Udupi mourns the untimely death of Fr Mahesh D’Souza and prays for the repose of his soul.

ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತದ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ಶಿರ್ವ ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಸಹಾಯಕ ಧರ್ಮಗುರು ಹಾಗೂ ಡೊನ್ ಬೊಸ್ಕೊ ಆಂಗ್ಲ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರಾದ ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾರವರು 11.10.2019 ರಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಕಛೇರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೇಣು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿz್ದÀರು. ಆ ¥್ರÀಕರಣವನ್ನು ಪೆÇಲೀಸರು ಅಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕ ಮರಣವೆಂದು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ತನಿಖೆಯನ್ನು ಆರಂಭಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇದೀಗ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ತನಿಖೆಯ ನಂತರ ತನಿಖಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ಪ್ರಕರಣದ ಅಂತಿಮ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ಕುಂದಾಪುರದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಉಪ ವಿಭಾಗದ ದಂಡಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದು ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ‘ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆ’ ಪ್ರಕರಣ ಎಂದು

ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪÀಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪ್ರಕರಣದ ತನಿಖಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳಾದ ಕಾಪು ಸರ್ಕಲ್ ಇನ್ಸ್‍ಪೆP್ಟÀರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ¥್ರÀಸಾದ್‍ರವರು ಈ ಸಂಬಂಧಿತ ನಡೆಸಿದ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ತನಿಖೆಯಲ್ಲಿ 95 ಸಾಕ್ಷಿಗಳ ವಿಚಾರಣೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದು, ಅವುಗಳ ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಾವಿನ ನಿಖರ ಕಾರಣವನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಧರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಶಾಲೆಯ ಸಾಲದ ಹೊರೆ, ಶಾಲಾ ಬಸ್ಸುಗಳ ಸಾಲದ ಹೊರೆ, ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತ್ಯದ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಮಂಡಳೀಯ ಕಾರ್ಯದರ್ಶಿ ಫಾದರ್ ವಿನ್ಸೆಂಟ್ ರೊಬರ್ಟ್ ಕ್ರಾಸ್ತಾ, ಶಿರ್ವ ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಹಿರಿಯ ಧರ್ಮಗುರು ಫಾದರ್ ಡೆನಿಸ್ ಡೆಸಾ, ಸಹಾಯಕ ಗುರು ಫಾದರ್ ಆಶ್ವಿನ್ ಆರಾನ್ಹಾ

ಹಾಗೂ ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತದ ಬಿಷಪ್‍ರವರು ಹಾಗು ಶ್ರೀ ಆಲ್ವಿನ್ ಡೊಮಿನಿಕ್ ದಾಂತಿಯವರು ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿಸೋಜರವರ ಸಾವಿಗೆ ಕಾರಣರಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪಡಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜ ಹಾಗೂ ಶಿರ್ವ ಚರ್ಚಿನ ಹಿರಿಯ ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳ ಮಧ್ಯೆ ಮನಸ್ತಾಪವಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರ ವರ್ಗಾವಣೆಯ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಲ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಯಾವುದೇ ಊಹಾಪೆÇೀಹಗಳು ಆಧಾರರಹಿತ ಎಂದು ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರ ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆಗೆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರು ನೀಡಿದ ಅಪರಾಧಿಕ ದುಷ್ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಕಾರಣ ಎಂದು ವರದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ  ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜ ಹಾಗೂ ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಪತ್ನಿ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಸಂಪರ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು ಫೆÇೀನ್ ಕರೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಚ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಇದನ್ನು ಆಕ್ಷೇಪಿಸಿ ಹಲವು ಬಾರಿ ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರಿಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. ಆದಾಗ್ಯೂ, 11.10.2019 ರಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ತನ್ನ ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರು ಚ್ಯಾಟಿಂಗ್ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಆಕ್ರೋಶಗೊಂಡ ಆ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಮೊಬೈಲ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರನ್ನು ಅವಾಚ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಬೈದಿದ್ದಲ್ಲದೆ, ಅವರ ತಾಯಿಗೆ ಅವಮಾನಕರವಾಗಿ ಬೈದು, ಹಿರಿಯ ಗುರುಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪೆÇಲೀಸರಿಗೆ ದೂರು ನೀಡುವ ಗಂಭೀರ

ಬೆದರಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಒಡ್ಡಿದರು. ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರಿಗೆ, `ಕುತ್ತಿಗೆಗೆ ಹಗ್ಗ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಇಲ್ಲವಾದರೆ ಅರ್ಧ ಗಂಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಮರ್ಯಾದೆ ತೆಗೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆ’ ಎನ್ನುವುದರ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಅಪರಾಧಿಕ ದುಷ್ಪ್ರೇರಣೆಯನ್ನು  ನೀಡಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರು ತತ್‍ಕ್ಷಣದ ದಿಗ್ಬ್ರಮೆಗೆ ಒಳಗಾಗಿ ದಿಕ್ಕು ತೋಚದಂತವರಾಗಿ ಮಾನ, ಮರ್ಯಾದೆ, ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠೆಗೆ ಹೆದರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ಮುಕ್ತಿ ಪಡೆಯಲು ಬೇರೆ ದಾರಿ ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಆಗದೆ ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ತನಿಖಾ ವರದಿಯು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಸಾವಿನ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರಿಂದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರತಿರೋಧ ª್ಯÀP್ತÀಪಡಿಸಿದ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳಿಲ್ಲ ಹಾಗೂ ನೇಣು ಬಿಗಿದುಕೊಂಡ ಸ್ಥಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ವಸ್ತುಗಳು ಚೆಲ್ಲಾಪಿಲ್ಲಿಯಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಂತೆಯೇ ಯಾವುದೇ ವಿಷ ಪದಾರ್ಥ ಸೇವನೆಯಾದ ಲಕ್ಷಣಗಳು ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ತನಿಖಾ ವರದಿಯು ತಜ್ಞರ ಫೆÇರೆನ್ಸಿಕ್ ವರದಿಯನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟಪÀಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ಸಾವಿಗೆ ನೇಣು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆಯ ಹೊರತು ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವ ಕಾರಣಗಳನ್ನೂ ತನಿಖಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ತಳ್ಳಿ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಫಾದರ್ ಮಹೇಶ್ ಡಿ’ಸೋಜರವರು ಈ ಹಿಂದೆ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಆತ್ಮಹತ್ಯೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತನಿಖೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಚ್ಚಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪೆÇಲೀಸ್ ಇಲಾಖೆಯು ನಡೆಸಿದ ಈ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ತನಿಖೆಯು ವಸ್ತುನಿಷ್ಠವಾಗಿದ್ದು, ನಿಷ್ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತವೂ ಆಗಿದೆ. ಕಳೆದ ನಾಲ್ಕು ತಿಂಗಳುಗಳಿಂದ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಇತರ ಮಾಧ್ಯಮಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹರಿದಾಡಿದ ಸುಳ್ಳು ಸುದ್ಧಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಊಹಾಪೆÇೀಹಗಳಿಂದ ಉಡುಪಿ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತದ ಬಿಷಪ್, ಧರ್ಮಗುರುಗಳು, ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ ಧರ್ಮಪ್ರಾಂತದ ವರ್ಚಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಅತೀವ ಹಾನಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು, ತನಿಖೆಯ ಈ ಅಂತಿಮ ವರದಿಯು ಇವುಗಳಿಗೆ ತೆರೆ ಎಳೆಯುವುದೆಂದು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೇವೆ.
