Unused grants in the District Panchayat: Determination of action against guilty

Udupi: The Udupi District Panchayat has withdrawn a grant of Rs 24 crore from the Panchayat Raj Engineering Division in 2019-20. The decision was taken at the District Panchayat General Meeting held at Udupi District Panchayat on Tuesday under the chairmanship of President Dinakara Babu to take immediate action against the officials who responsible for sending back the grant.

In the works undertaken by the Panchayat Raj Engineering Division in 2019-20, the district and state sector total grants of Rs 24 crore have been withdrawn due to delay in submitting the treasury even though the bills have been submitted and the works have already been completed. Who will come forward to manage, so that tomorrow is the time to take disciplinary action against officials who are not using the grant. MLA Raghupathi Bhatt and all members of the Zilla Panchayat have therefore requested a decision tomorrow to take disciplinary action against officials who have not used the grants.

A committee has already been set up by the District Panchayat to investigate the matter and a report will be issued soon, said Zilla Panchayat CEO Preeti Gehlot.

Speaking at the meeting, Shilpa Ji Suvarna,  member said that without the permission from District Panchayat had demolished the commercial building at Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat and demanded appropriate action.

The CEO said that if the building in the Gram Panchayat is broken and the necessary rules are not followed, action will be taken against the persons involved.

Member Jyothi Harish said that there is 1100 acres of land in the Varnga Gram Panchayat, which is the objection of the Jain mutt to undertake development work, to mark the land on the government land and to prevent the construction of the Express Lane along the Hebri-Muniyalu route by the Forest Department. She called for action on the nearby road works and also requested action to be taken on the mess of road works near Someshwar.

Kundapur Zonal Forest Officer Ashish Reddy told the Forest Department to bring their concerns to the notice and said they would try to resolve them soon.

Member Shashikant Padubidri said that the work on the service road and drainage construction was delayed and hence during rainy season it would be problem and asked to take action. Replying to ZP President Dinakar Babu said that in regard to this the area will be inspected very soon.

Responding to a query by Member Janardhan Tonse about the sand problem in the district, Ranji Naik, a mine and geology officer, said the state has implemented a new Karnataka sand policy -2020 in which sand distribution will take place and there will be a uniform rate across the state.

In the fight against Covid 19, the district operates as a model for the state in all quarters, including the quarantine system and treatment, with applause for all departmental officials and the staff including the Department of Health, Police, Revenue and also taken all precautionary measures to undertake SSLC examinations smoothly and members applauded for educational department.

District Panchayat Vice President Sheila K Shetty, Education and Health Standing Committee President Pratap Hegde Marali, Social Justice Standing Committee Chairperson Shobha G. Putran, Agriculture and Industrial Standing Committee President Sumit Shetty, Chief Planning Officer Srinivasa Rao, Deputy Secretary Kiran Fednikar were present.
