Manipal : The role of engineers in the Post COVID world and emphasis on the need to explore the ‘digital wave’ to solve the societal problems were the focal points of the message delivered to the budding engineers at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal by the key speakers during Orientation Program
The orientation program to mark the beginning of the B. Tech Program was held on online mode for the newly admitted students of 2020 batch at Manipal Institute of Technology on 05 October 2020.
Dr. Srikanth Rao, Director, MIT, Manipal welcomed the guests and students by providing a glimpse into the relevance and prospects of being a student at the institute.
The chief guest of the program, Mr. T V Mohandas Pai, Chairman, Manipal Global Education Services Pvt. Ltd highlighted the relevance of engineers in the post COVID world. He urged the students to explore the immense possibilities offered by the ‘digital wave’ that is going to transform the world in the years to come. He also stressed on the necessity to be equipped with the resources to face the multilevel transformation (technological, geopolitical, economic and so on) that would take place by the time the students graduate. The way forward is to create problem-solving mind-set, develop the skills to use the right data, and enhance communication. Using the right skills required for a digital age, engineers could play a pivotal role in the transformation.
Mr. Raghupathi, C N, Senior Vice President, Head of India, Infosys highlighted the need to develop the aspects of disciplined mind. He elaborated on the advantages of training the mind to focus on a goal with respect to divergent views and discipline to pursue the aspiration. Being a student at MIT, Manipal provides the best opportunity to train the minds in a disciplined and respectful manner. This mind is to be directed towards engaging with the futuristic technological knowledge such as data science and artificial intelligence for the benefit of the society.
Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh,Vice Chancellor, MAHE highlighted the opportunities available to students at MAHE to get the best of learning possibilities. He emphasised how Manipal plays a crucial role in nurturing the young minds as global citizen. The vice- Chancellor pointed out that the sound alumni network, best of the infrastructure, the experiential learning environment and above all thrust on human values at MAHE would help the students to be ready to face the challenges of future.
Dr. B H V Pai. Joint Director, MIT, Manipal provided the participants an overview of the institute and highlighted the merits of becoming anMITian. Dr. PurshothamSravade, Head, Dept. of Civil Engineering and Coordinator of the Orientation 2020 proposed the vote of thanks.
