Udupi : In his letter, Sanjai Jalla, Mission Leader, Blue flag beaches of India, said that Padubidri beach has been conferred the coveted eco-label “Blue flag”.

India has done exceptionally well by securing all 8 beaches of India, namely Shivrajpur(Gujarat), Ghoghla(Diu), Kasarkod(Karnataka), Padubidri(Karnataka), Kappad (Kerala), Rushikonda (Andra Pradesh), Golden (Odisha), and Radhanagar (Andaman). This 100% performance in its maiden attempt is an outstanding feat as no Blue flag nation has ever achieved this feat.

This has been possible only because of your shear commitment towards this goal.

In addition to this, you should be proud to know that India has bagged 3^rd Best award for “Best Practices” on pollution control in the coastal regions. This is out of 50 Blue flag nation to which India is one of them now.

Each one of you deserves to be applauded as every individual in the BEAMS family has contributed to this great feat.

The Blue flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education that a beach, marina or sustainable boating tourism operator meets its standards. The Blue flag is trademark owned by FEE which is a not for profit non- governmental organization consisting of 65 organizations in 60 member countries.

The presence of a Blue Flag on a beach recognizes and encourages the efforts of local authorities to succeed that the beach meets certain criteria regarding the law, accessibility, health, cleanliness and safety, as well as have adequate information and environmental management.
