Udupi : The liquor merchants in response  to protest have not bought liquor for sale today, said B. Govidraj Hegde, State Secretary of Federation of Wine Merchants Association.

He said that in the all over the state liquor merchants facing several problems due to coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. We have brought to the notice of the government in regard to various problems in writing. The government instead of taking decisions in our favour decides against us.

He said that if we ask for compensation due to loss suffered during the lockdown period, the government remains indifferent with us. In addition to that the government is thinking of online sales of liquor. The government has failed to consider solving our problems and considering any of our demands. The harassment by officials also has crossed limits also, he said.

Therefore, today, the liquor merchants have not bought liquor for sale. Recently the government has extended the expiry date for consumption of beer. He questioned that who will be responsible if it adversely affects the health of beer consumers due to that?.
