Udupi: The District Collector G. Jagdeesh has instructed officials to take immediate action to fix the damage caused by rain flood and horticultural crops in the district as pr the directions of the government.
He presided over District Disaster Management Authority meeting at Zilla Panchayat Hall at Rajathadri here on Thursday, October 15, 2020.
The present year the monsoon rain is 5040mm and usually 16% more rainfall than usual. Roads, bridges, Horticulture, farm land and including houses around Rs. 334.20 crore damage has been incurred in the Udupi district so far.
All necessary precautions should be taken to carry out rescue operations in the event of heavy rains in future days. Disaster Management Committees have been formed in the Gram Panchayat and the members of the committee should be involved in the rescue work, he informed.
The Udupi city limits have been submerged due to heavy rains, which, when identified, will enable the city to take care of the floods, ensure that the flow of water is flowing smoothly and keep the streets in order.
Officials, fishermen and volunteers have been doing their best to protect the people affected by the rains last month, and district administration have conveyed congratulations to the concerned people of the District for safeguarding more than 800 people.
He said most of the boats for fire brigade would be arranged under the Disaster Management Fund and trained as needed by the fire brigade.
District Panchayat President Dinaka Babu, Additional district collector Sadashiva Prabhu, Member of the Legal Services Authority Kaveri, Kundapur Deputy Superintendent Raju, District Panchayat Deputy Secretary Kiran Fednaker and District Level Implementation Officers were also present.
