Udupi :  District Police Department has decided to make Udupi district a drug free district and zero tolerance towards narcotics either in consumption or peddling, said Udupi District Superintendent of Police N Vishnuvardhan.

Addressing to media persons in his pressmeet held at District Police Office Conference Hall, N Vishnuvardhan said that the crackdown on the drug menace going on in the district and Police seized Rs 73.39 lac worth Synthetic drugs in three cases along with arrested four persons during the last two weeks.

He said that in the past five years sales, consumption and peddling 211 cases are registered against the students as well as public and 224 people have been arrested. First time in the district synthetic drugs are confiscated and ten people are arrested through reverse investigation.

He said most of the drugs dealings are taking place through dark web and their focus on selling at Manipal in particular for the students. Hence, the department asks the educational institutions to take strict action on students in regard to narcotic drugs crime.

He said that for the operation of narcotics trafficking and servicing, three teams have been formed under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarachandra.The technical team consists of Hariram Shankar, ASP  Kundapur sub-division, Bharat S Reddy ASP Karkala Sub-division and District Police office team Shivananda, Nithin and Dinesh.

The operation team consists of Manjunath PSI Manipal, Rajshekar Vandali PSI Manipal, Manipal Police station staff Shailesh, Thomson, Prasanna, Adbul Razak, Adarsh, Salman Khan and Kundapur station staff Vijay Kumar, Raju and Sathish.

The investigation team T R Jaishankar DySP Udupi, Ananthapadmanabha CPE Brahmavar, Mahesh Prasad CPI Kaup, Manjunath CPI Udupi, Manjappa DR CPI DCIB and Raghavendra PSI of Brahmavar.

The operation along with special technical team succeeded to seized Synthetic drugs and arrested four persons.

The teams seized 1019 MDMA Ecstasy tablets worth Rs. 30.57 lac, 1000 LSD Stamps worth Rs 30 lac, Brown Sugar worth Rs 3 lac and 131 grams of Superior quality Hydro weed Ganja worth Rs 9.42 lac. Total seized narcotics worth Rs 30,57,510.

Madhu, CPI ISD unit, Udupi Assistant Drug Controller Nagaraj, and Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar and their staff are cooperating in all these attacks.

The said operations on narcotics have been appreciated by State DG, IGP and IGP Western Range, SP said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarachandra, Hariram Shankar ASP Kundapur, Bharath S Reddy ASP Karkala, Manunath M PSI Manipal, Rajashekar Vandali PSI Manipal, Munjunath CPI Udupi, Manjappa D R CPI DCIB, Madhu CPI ISD unit were present during the press meet.
