Udupi : A huge scam has taken place in the funds of Udupi City Municipality reserved for Dalits under health card scheme. Lakh of amount of scam has taken place by paying premium in the name of people who are dead, said Sundar Master, Chief District Convener of Karnataka Dalitha Sangharsha Samithi, Udupi district.

Addressing a press meet at Udupi Press Club here on Saturday, October 24, Sundar Master said that since eight years, Udupi CMC spent under the said scheme Rs 5.24 crore which is reserve funds for dalith community. Along with the Insurance Company the Udupi CMC officials are involved in the huge scam. He said that for example in Moodubettu ward alone premium is paid in the name of 30 people who died long back. He said that just imagine, for all the 35 wards of CMC, there has been the huge scam possible. Moreover, the so called scheme health cards distributed neither insurance company nor City Municipality. Around 50% persons not have known the said scheme. Each year Rs. 50 lakh is paid as premium every year towards health cards, said Sundar Master.

He said that the grant of SCP and TSP amount utilized for repair of good conditioned roads twice on same roads and misused the fund. Even though this amount should be utilized for SC/ST beneficiaries, CMC using the said fund for all municipal workers and misusing the huge of amount, he said.

Sundar Master said that in the city limit there are two Indira Canteens available which is not using properly due to bad quality of food available. But, the canteen management was showing the fake bills in every month. It is shown that 30,000 plates of breakfast, 28,000 plates of lunch and 10,000 plates of dinner are served every month. The estimated bills of two Indira Canteens in the last two years are around Rs 84 lac. Several lac of amount are misused in the name of Indira Canteen in the city, he alleged. The consumers have been complained about the quality of food served in these two canteens. Here also, in the name of civic workers, the huge amount was misused, he said.

Even though the Environment department of the city municipality using 35 vehicles provided by the CMC and other donors for cleaning of garbage, people are throwing the garbage on the streets. In this regard the CMC officials are threatening civic workers and conducting atrocities on Koraga community. Even though the government providing free vehicles for garbage cleaning, the Civic officials asking commission from the cleaning civic workers. We demand to transfer such officials of CMC who threatening and asking commission from the civic cleaning workers, he said.

The recruitment for the city municipality is very low for SC/ST community. The available amount for the SC/ST community is made available for all the other civic workers. The city municipality has misusing the medical amount in Adarsh Hospital. Even though the SC community more in number, the recruitment will be done more to ST communities, he said.

The providing raincoats, uniform and other materials to civic workers are very poor quality. There will be huge scam in regard to purchase of these materials, he said.

Sundar Master said that if we ask all these problems to municipal commissioner, he is not giving any answer in a suitable sense. He always used to say that ask the MLA. We demand the transfer of corrupt officials Sneha, Manohar and Karunakar of Udupi CMC and should take suitable actions on these culprits. If the district administration not taking any action on the various scams and other matters within fifteen days, the Dalitha Sangharsh Committee will stage huge protest in front of Udupi CMC building, he said.
