‘Let Intelligence Commitment and Courage Lead You,’- President and CEO of National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) to the Graduating Students of MAHE

Manipal, November 22: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) concludes the third day of its eventful 28th e-convocation with the presence of Dr. Peter J. Katsufrakis, the President and CEO of National Board of Medical Examiners, NBME as the Chief Gueston Sunday.
The final day of the convocation witnessed graceful presence of Chief guest of this evening Dr. Peter J Katsufrakis,President and CEO National Board of Medical Examiners, Mrs. Vasanthi R Pai-Trustee MAHE, Pro Chancellor Dr. H.S. Ballal, Vice chancellor Lt. Gen (Dr). M D Venkatesh, Pro Vice chancellors, Dr. PLNG Rao, Dr. Dilip G Naik, Dr. C S Thammaiah, Registrar Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar Evaluation Dr. Vinod Thomas, Director Student Affairs Dr. Geetha Maiya, Deputy registrars Dr. Guruprasad and Dr. Preetham Kumar, Heads of Constituent institutions of Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
Bringing down the curtain on the eventful third day e-Convocation, Dr. Peter J Katsufrakis, President and CEO National Board of Medical Examiners, shared a number of interesting thoughts from his career journey that would evidently stay in the minds of the students after completion of graduation and offered solutions with apt examples for them grasp effectively.
To address the recently graduated students through virtual convocation, Dr. Katsufrakis, said, “As you all graduates go through your careers, I hope that you will remember the lesson the pandemic has taught us and remember that science is fundamental to the practice of medicine. So while you may be completing your medical education, the reality is that you will continue to be students, students of medicine, and students of science for the remainder of your careers. But that’s not a burden. That’s an opportunity. That’s the opportunity to participate in the advance of the human race in the field of medicine.”
“Always have courage to speak truth to power, the courage to advocate for science, in the face of opposition, the courage to advocate for your patients when that’s needed. And finally, we need resilience. Resilience to pick ourselves up when despite our best efforts our patients don’t achieve the outcomes we’d hoped for while we face other challenges in our professional life. Where things are not going well as they might in our personal lives. We need the resilience to stand up and to move on and to continue to strive to do the necessary work. The work of caring for the world. So once again I congratulate you today on all that you’ve achieved so far, on your good fortune and a good choice to have chosen a career which I have no doubt will bring rewards to you and those around you for the rest of your lives.”,he also addedand congratulated all the graduated students.
Lt. Addressing the student, Dr. C S Thammaiah, Pro-Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Mangalore campus said “You live in an era where the pace of technology transition is taking place at a mind boggling pace that even as I speak, new concepts are being introduced, established paradigms are being refined, and research is opening new vistas. The change being driven by path breaking research is both exhilarating and mesmerizing. As young graduates, it will be your challenge, to imbibe the latest developments in the field of technology. My heartiest congratulations on your success, and the very best wishes to all of you.”
The third day was concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Director-ICAS.
Gold Medal winners: The Dr TMA Pai gold medal winners on the third day were: Manoj M Wagle,Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sunanda S Rao, Manipal School of Information Sciences, Manipal.
