Udupi: District panchayat president Dinakara Babu has instructed food department officials to take necessary steps to ensure the quality of Kuchhige white rice is low and Kuchhige white rice is being distributed in the ration shops in the district.

He was speaking after presiding over the monthly KDP meeting held at the District Panchayat Hall on Wednesday, November 25.

The government has been requested to provide Kuchige rice to the district in the ration system, thus supplying rice to the district. But the quality of this rice is getting complaints from the public. Dinakar Babu instructed Food department officials to supply best quality of red Kuchhige rice in ration shops. In this regard write a letter to Food Corporation, he instructed.

Food department officials informed that the Kuchige white rice, which is currently being supplied to the district, is being supplied from Andhra Pradesh and the local kuchige rice grown in the district is not available in sufficient quantities of rice. The President suggested writing a letter to the Food Corporation to supply the rice to the district if it was grown in other states.

Summit Shetty, chairman of the Agriculture and Industrial Standing Committee, said the ban on plastic use in the district is not being adequately implemented. Therefore, Dinakar Babu instructed City Development officials to seize the plastic with plastic traders and suppliers in the district and instructed taluk panchayat officials to take action in urban areas by the panchayat project officers.

The chairman of Education and Health Standing Committee Pratap Hegde Marali said that plastic bags are cheaper and alternatively need to supply the cotton bags to reduce the use of plastic bags. Hence, the officials should prepare the project to avoid the use of plastic bags.

The President said that when connecting water under the Jala Jeevan Mission, schools and anganwadis should also be provided with facilities for the disabled, in the grants earmarked for the disabled, He advised all departments to meet their targets within the stipulated time.

Zilla Panchayat  CEO Naveen Bhatt, Deputy Secretary Kiran Fadnaker, Chief Planning Officer Srinivasa Rao, District Panchayat Vice President Sheela Shetty and Social Justice Standing Committee Chairperson Shobha Putran were also present.
