Udupi : Milagres Cathedral Kallianpur of Udupi diocese observed Confraternity Sunday which is also called Compri Fest on Sunday, January 17, 2021 with gaiety and devotion. The prelude to the annual parish feast celebration of Tuesday 19^th and Wednesday 20^th January. Confraternity Sunday observed with Eucharistic Solemn mass and Adoration.

Prior to the Eucharistic mass, 7^th day novena prayers for Our Lady of Miracles was conducted by Rev Fr. Canute Noronha, Assistant parish priest. Rev Fr. Johnson Lawrence Sequiera, Principal of St. Mary’s English Medium Schools, Udupi, concelebrated the Holy Eucharistic mass with Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector of the Cathedral, Rev Fr. Canute Noronha and deacon Rithesh of Pilar Fathers.

In his beautiful homily, Rev Fr. Johnson L Sequiera pointed out the importance of Holy Eucharist which promotes the brotherhood and unity with us. The Eucharist has the great power possible to move the family to love and serve the God with brotherhood and unity and serve the Lord, to bring the good news of Jesus to all encountered. The Holy Eucharist is the sacrament of brotherhood which reconciles us to God in one brotherhood with unity among us. The Eucharist provides the grace to restore unity among all who members of Body of Christ.

He said when parishioners’ are prepared to participate in Holy Eucharistic Mass and receive Jesus in Communion; they are being formed into holy temples-sanctuaries of God. The Eucharist as a Sacrament of Presence will encourage families in brother to reach out to others and to share this Jesus whom they have received.

Eucharist is the unifying bond that brings us together again and again in the task of living together with Jesus Christ. The celebration of Eucharist begins with an acknowledgment that God is present where two or more are united with brothers and sisters in his name and that we stand before Him in His presence. The Eucharist demonstrates its efficacy in the fruits of a new life in the world, in the fruits of holiness and becoming more God like, that is, in the fruits of eternal life. In this sense, Eucharist is seen the Sacrament of intense spirituality with brotherhood and unity with one another.

After the weekly announcements by Rector Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Adoration of the Holy Eucharistic Sacrament was performed by the main celebrant Rev Fr. Johnson L Sequiera.

Due to Corona pandemic this year as per the government procedures on pandemic, there was no Eucharist procession conducted. Large number of faithful were participated in the Confraternity Sunday celebrations even though corona pandemic.

The vespers eve will be held on Tuesday, 19^th January at 6.45pm onwards which begins with evening prayers. No procession prior to the vespers prayers which usually held every year. An annual parish feast will be held on Wednesday, 20^th January from 10.30am. The main celebrant of the Annual Feast Solemn Mass will be Rev Fr. J B Saldanha of Mangalore Diocese.
