CATHOLIC SABHA, Mount Rosary Church Unit

Honours newly elected Grama Panchayat Members.

In a simple but meaningful function was held in the Church Mini Hall to congratulate the newly elected three Grama Panchyat Members, in the just concluded local body elections, at 9.15 am, on 24th January, 2021.

Grama Sabha’s are the cradle of democracy as they are grass root level political power and service centres in India. Today these Units are enjoying lot of clout, funds at their disposal and influence over executive system by mobilizing and spending huge amount of finance ear marked by state and Central Govt’s Schemes.

One of the fundamental objectives of Catholic Sabah over the years is to groom leaders and encourage them, to serve the society in a true Christian spirit of equality, social justice and fraternity.

Interestingly all the three contestants registered success and all were proud members of Catholic Sabah, who served in different capacities at various levels in the past.

Rev. Dr. Leslie C D’Souza, Parish Priest of the Mount Rosary Church and the Spiritual Director CS together with, the President of the Catholic Sabha - Mrs Jyothy Lewis, Former President Mr Elias DSouza, Udupi Region General Secretary Mr Santhosh Cornelio, Former Pradesh President Mr Valerian Fernandes, honoured the newly elected Members, by draping traditional shawl and offering bouquet. On behalf all present Vicar congratulated the members and wished all success in the service people in days to come….

Archibald Furtado the Secretary of the Catholic Sabah introduced Mr Baptist Dias, “who is a fourth time member had the record of serving as Kallianpur Village Panchayat Vice President earlier. Now he is rendering his service as Vice President of Parish Pastoral Council, too….It’s a great moment of pride and respect….” he told.

Mr Luke DSouza,  Former President, CS,  spoke about its one time versatile Member, Mrs Benedicta Menezes, who is basically a teacher and a Social worker, who had an exhaustive social career in the Church and society.

Mrs Meena Pinto, who is second time member was won with record number of votes, had distinct experience and honour to be its President five years ago and now one of the probable’s to occupy the post for the second time, Mrs Cynthia DSilva, Co-ordinator Govt Facilities, CS - narrated in her brief introduction and wished better opportunities will follow her for her leadership qualities, courage and dedication, in coming years in larger platforms like Taluk and District levels, she said.

In their reply to the honours Mr Baptist Dias thanked Catholic Sabah for its continued support and expected more will enter political arena to serve the needy, downtrodden at one end and to materialise developmental work in their respective wards and villages.

“More opportunities now open for women, though reservations at times hinder our chances to contest in familiar wards, but your track record will speak in volumes when people exercise their franchise….” Meena Pinto informed and “our service, integrity and loyalty will always come handy to serve the needy….” she continued.

It is a special day to remember, as all three of expressed and thanked Catholic Sabah for its backing, encouragement and assured their best service in days to come.
