Ex-Milagrean Gangadhar Kadekar creates new record by swimming 1.4 km in sea with legs chained

Udupi: Udupi’s national winner, swimmer Gangadhar G. 64 years old wrapped his leg in the Padmasana’s posture and recorded his name in the 1.4 meter Easy India Book of Records in just one hour and 13 minutes and 7 seconds by maximum distance covered while swimming in lotus pose(Padmasana Posture).

He started swimming at 8.36am on Sunday, January 24 was reached seashore at 9.40am which he took time of one hour, 13 minutes and 7 seconds and braked a earlier record. Officers of the Indian Book of records witnessed the swim in the sea in the style of breast stroke, padmasana posture.

Gangadhar G. has already won state and national awards. From 2009 to 2019, he won 31 gold, 16 silver and eight bronze medals in the state level swimming competition. He has also won national level competitions in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. He won the gold medal for the state by winning three gold medals in the National Swimming Competition conducted by the Master Games Federation of India.

Former Minister Pramod Madhvaraj was given start to Gangadhar for swimming at 8.36am. Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat has congratulated Gangadhar who has set a new record of 1.4 meters in the sea in the style of a breast stroke swimming with a leg chase.

Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Cooperative Fisheries Federation President Yashpal Suvarna, Karthik Group Malpe Managing Director Hariyappa Kotian, Additional District Commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, Superintendent of Coast Guard Police Chetan R, Jury Harish R and Jai Durga Swimming Club® Kadekar Vice President Chandra M Kundar, Harsha Mendon, Janardhan Kotian and all members and locals were present.
