Do not disrupt of electricity supply during rainy season, Sumithra Nayak asks cooperation from MESCOM officials

Udupi : In order to solve the disruption of the electricity supply now and then due to problems faced by the tree branches over the electric service wires between the poles during the rainy season need to make solution, the majority councilors asked the MESCOM officials to solve the same and clear the tree branches over the line of electric service wires.
In the Udupi City Municipal Council general meeting on Wednesday, June 23, the Chairperson Sumithra Nayak asked the MESCOM and the forest officials to cooperate with the CMC during the rainy season and need help to solve the problems of electricity supply and so the street lights not to be interrupted.
Some councilors told the officials that after the trimming of trees branches over the service wire, the MESCOM people leaving the tree branches at the places. MESCOM officials told to the chair that we have no facility to clear the tree branches after the trimming the same and meanwhile we have the problem of shortage of workers. We can inform the matter to the higher officials in regard to clearing the same. The forest officials told the chair that we have no objection to remove the tree branches, but there will be no permission to cut the trees. If anyone to remove the tree, they should take the permission from the district forest officer, Forest official said.
Earlier, various ward councilors placed their concern on disruption of electricity due to several reasons which several section officers were present and heard the grievances.
The Councilor Krishnarao Kodancha accused the chair that the municipal labours not performing their proper duties that during the interval for breakfast or tiffin, these labours taking their large time to duty. There should need to break of using mobile phones on duty. The Municipal officials told during the meeting that we have total 182 municipal workers employed and out of that every day more than 20-25 workers not attending the duty. The members told the chair that those who not attending the duty and make absent should need to remove from the duty. Health Officer Karunakar said that those who taking long leave will be given notice and taking the action. There are six labours working in the office and others are working the streets. Those who are working outside the office need not give entry to the office, said the majority members.
MLA Raghupathy Bhat said during the meeting that the tiffin expenses of Rs 20 per person not enough. It should need to increase further Rs. 20 for the municipal labours. In reply to municipal officials told that there should need permission from the government to increase the tiffin charges. Hence, as per the MLAs request, the resolution has been passed to give proposal to the government to increase the tiffin charges of Rs. 40 each labour.
City Muncipal Council vice president Laxmi Manjunath, Commissioner Dr. Uday Kumar Shetty and officials of various departments were present during the hurriedly called general body meeting even though the corona pandemic rate is above than 5%.
