Catholic Sabah, Mount Rosary Unit organise Vana-Mahotsava on 4th July, 2021.

Santhekatte, July 4, 2021: A very meaningful effort to popularise the need of planting and growing more trees, create awareness  against the global warming and emphasising the importance of clean environment, in mind, the Catholic Sabah Unit of Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte arranged Vana-Mahotsava on Sunday, 4th July, 2021.

It’s always an on-going movement on its part and due to prevailing restrictions imposed by authorities, at the backdrop of Covid 19 pandemic, no event of large gathering was encouraged, except requesting all its members to plant fruit bearing, medicinal seeds / saplings in their respective compounds and motivate the same spirit in the neighbourhood.

For those who cannot go to distant nurseries, Catholic Sabah volunteers initiated and led by former President Mr Elias DSouza, organised to take orders and list of requirements and delivered these saplings etc to their doorsteps, procured from East West Nursery, Kaup, well on time on 2nd July, 2021.

Parish Priest Rev. Dr. Leslie C DSouza and Asst Vicar Rev Fr. Steven Fernandes too supported Catholic Sabah in its small mission by planting few fruit bearing saplings in the Church campus.

A short formal ceremony was also arranged in the compound of its President Jyothy Lewis by planting couple of saplings to mark the movement.

Among others, the simple programme was attended by Pradesh CS Designated President Santhosh Cornelio, immediate past President Elias DSouza, Former Presidents, Luke DSouza, and Marita Lewis, Vice President Peter Lewis, and most of the present and past office bearers……

In the beginning, President Jyothy Lewis cordially welcomed all who were present and requested to spread the message of green and clean surrounding.

As a symbolic gesture she planted baby Musambi and Lavanga tree with the due help from her husband Peter Lewis and later handed over few more Saplings to Luke DSouza, Santhosh Cornelio, Tolbert DSouza, Richard DSouza etc.

While concluding the programme, Secretary of Catholic Sabha and Convenor of newly formed Environment Ayog of the parish, Archibald Furtado, thanked everyone present and expected to continue the spirit of ‘Vana Mahotsava’ in our daily life by nurturing what is sown, planted today to see that it will grow and bear fruit, thereby the real  purpose be served.

In the beginning host family served light refreshments and tea to all who were present.
