Udupi : In order to avoid weekend public gatherings in public places like beaches, markets etc, the state government issued order to week end curfew to Udupi district to break the spread of covid-19, said District Collector Kurma Rao G.

Addressing a press meet at ZP hall, Rajathadri, Manipal here on Friday, September 3, DC Kurma Rao said that Udupi district has been third place in the state on Covid active cases after Bengaluru City and Dakshina Kannada districts. Presently the positivity rate moderately reducing since two weeks which 1.54% and 1.27% seven days earlier. Even though the positivity rate below than 2% in Udupi district, due to high rate of covid pandemic in our neighboring state of Kerala, the state government in order to break the pandemic, decided to impose week end curfew in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

DC said as per the state government order, a negative RT-PCR certificate mandatory for all students as well as others arriving from Kerala. The certificate should not be older than 72 hours, irrespective of vaccination status. Moreover, the students should be in institutional quarantine for seven days. Not only that, anyone who visits Kerala should be under seven days of quarantine.

He also said that those who arriving from Maharastra state also need negative covid report which not be older than 72 hours.

The district administration decided to newly infected covid people should admit in institutional quarantine or in hospital, so that the speed of spreading the pandemic could be reduced, he said.

Since one week the covid vaccination has given to more than 1,20,000 people and increased the vaccination campaign. Udupi district stands third place in getting first dose of vaccination and stands first in the state in vaccination on gap between first dose and second dose which has 92%. There are still 2,14,468 people who are above 18 years to receive the first dose of vaccination, DC said.

The district administration planning to give the speed of vaccination jab in next two weeks for to take atleast first vaccination, DC said.

To a query on the measures taken by the district administration to avoid the positivity rate especially arriving students from Kerala state, Vishnuvardhan N Superintendant of Police said that during the weekend curfew, we have eight check posts around the district and another six have been installed additionally to examine the border area with Kerala and Maharastra.
