Udupi : The feast of Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary was celebrated at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur with tradition and fervor on Wednesday, September 8 amidst Corona Virus Pandemic.

As per the restriction and covid guidelines, there was no procession and blessings on paddy corns held by Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector of Cathedral. Prior to the paddy corn blessings, colourful flowers offered to Infant Mary by large children with singing “Moriye Hogalsiyam” at portico of the Cathedral which large number of devotees gathered.

The festive Solemn High Mass was concelebrated by the parish priest and rector of the cathedral Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca along with assistant parish priest Rev Fr. Joy Rolson Andrede.

In his beautiful homily, Rev Fr. Joy Andrede pointed out on Mother Mary and need to make devotion to Mother of Lord, Mother Mary. She was chosen by the God and became Mother of Jesus Christ. Mother Mary also Mother of us. Mother Mary listened to the good news from God and She followed the God throughout Her life. She is the Salvation of Humanity and we, devotees of Mather Mary should respect the humanity as well.

At the end of the celebrations after the announcement by the Rector, the firgent of the feast since several decades Late Lazarus and Late Margaret D’souza family members were honored with handing over decorated candle to one of the member of the family. Meanwhile candles also distributed to sponsors of the feast during the end of the mass. Fr. Valerian Mendonca also handed over prizes to the winners’ of ‘Milarchi Laram’ quiz competition. Moreover, scholarships also handed over to toppers of SSLC and PUC students by the firgent.

Fr. Valerian Mendonca distributed blessed paddy corns to Vice President, Secretary, coordinator of pastoral commissions and Gurkars. The blessed corns were distributed to all the parishioners’ by the Gurkars.

ICYM members of the parish distributed ‘Samasas’ to the all participated parishioners. Sugarcane, Sweets, refreshments and stationery and other distributed to the children of parish.

Meanwhile, Bishop of Udupi diocese, Most Rev Dr. Gerald Issac Lobo concelebrated mass at St. Anthony Church, Kuntal Nagar near Moodubelle.
