Kanara Cultural Association New Delhi (Regd.) Honours Covid Warriors and Meritorious Children

Kanara Cultural Association (KCA) New Delhi organized an impressive function on September 12, 2021 at the Diocesan Community Hall, New Delhi to honour more than 20 Covid Warriors working at different hospitals in the National Capital Region and meritorious children of KCA members. The function began at 11-30 with welcome address by KCA President Mr Pius Monterio. More than, 150 KCA members form National Capital Region participated in the program wearing masks and observing social distancing.

Dr. Charles   Lobo,    Member   (Operations),   Postal   Services   Board,   Ministry   of Communications, honoured more than 20 Konkani speaking Covid Warriors for their  service during the pandemic. Dr. Lobo appreciated the service rendered    but   expressed   his   doubts   who   will   remember    his/ her service?   In   his,   well   received   speech,   he   pointed   out   parallels   from  history,   particularly contribution of outstanding doctors from Konkani speaking community of western coast when there was plague and cholera in the 19th and 20th century.

He  also  pointed  out   great  personalities  from Konkani speaking community   who have  done outstanding service for  our country in areas of administration and politics but asked the audience whether they or  their  children  remember them or  their service?
He answered his question by giving a practical suggestion that we must bring out small booklets on these personalities to inspire   our children so that in future too our community have great doctors, administrators and politicians. Dr. Lobo requested KCA to start a library and gave copies of his books and financial contribution to implement his suggestion.

Mr Rajesh Prasad, Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Delhi, honoured more than 25 meritorious children. While appreciating the performance of each child, Mr. Prasad, also shared his experiences in the area of education in Delhi.  He told the audience that the pandemic period   was the   most   difficult   period   for   school   going   children.   He   appreciated, KCA for encouraging Children and also for providing them a cultural platform.

During the function KCA also   felicitated   the   newly   appointed   Vicar   General   of   Delhi Arch Diocese   Rev.   Fr.   Vincent   D’Souza   and   South   Asia   Provincial of   Jesuits   Rev.   Fr.  Jerome Stanislaus D’Souza. KCA also, extended a warm welcome to new comer, Mr. Ivan Dsouza ex- MLC, Karnataka who informed that he has been posted at party headquarters with new responsibilities. Another dignitary, present for the function was Mr. Vasanth Shetty Bellare, Chairman Delhi Kannada Education Society, who extended his greetings to all KCA members.

Konkani song “Mogacho Petlo Uzo” sung by KCA youngsters Richeal , Anisha, Riva & “Dabazo” sung by Fr Sunil, Arun, and Godfrey attracted loud applause.

The program was compered by Mrs Merlin Frank. KCA cultural secretary Mr. Melvyn. Lobo proposed a vote of thanks. The programme concluded with Manglorean meal.
