Udupi : Bishop of Udupi Diocese Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo has opened Diocesan Phase of Synod 2023 Preparatory Document at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur of the Udupi diocese on Sunday, October 17, 2021.

Prior to the Solemnly Eucharistic celebration, Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo along with priests, parish pastoral council members and parish financial committee members proceeded procession from Milagres Tri-Centenary Hall to the Cathedral at 8am. Bishop has been his second day of official pastoral visit to the Cathedral.

Bishop Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo concelebrated Eucharistic celebration with Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector the Cathedral, Rev Fr. Joy Rolson Andrade asst. parish priest of the Cathedral, Rev Fr. Stephen D’Souza, Director of Divya Jyothi and Director of Cathetics, Udupi diocese and  Rev Fr. Alwyn Sequiera, OCD, Priest of Koteshwar Church.

In his homily, Rev Fr. Stephen D’souza briefed on importance of Synod. The Church of God is convoked in Synod. The path entitled :For a Synodal Church : Communion, Participation and Mission” will solemnly openly on the 9^th-10^th of October 2021 in Rome and on the following 17^th of October in each particular Church. One fundamental stage will be the celebration of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in October 2023 which will be followed by the implementation phase that will again involve entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission. Fr. Stephen said worldwide 340 Bishops will gather in Vatican and give guidance and other matters to Pope Francis.

This Preparatory Document is at the service of the synodal journey, especially as a tool to facilitate the first phase of listening to and consulting the People of God in the particular churches (October 21 -  April 2022), in the hope of helping to set in motion the ideas, energy and creativity of all those who will take part in the journey, and to make it easier to share the fruits of their efforts.

At the end of the mass, Rector of the Cathedral, Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca placed the weekly announcement. Bishop Gerald at the end of the mass also gave gratitude to Rector Fr Valerian and all concerned and opened the Diocesan phase of Synod 2023 Preparatory Document.

After the mass, Bishop as per his pastoral visit schedule participated in the gathering of parish pastoral council members, interaction on parish children during the children mass at 9am and held meeting with parish associations’ presidents and secretaries. In the afternoon, as per his pastoral visit schedule checked the parish accounts and records, visit of convents’ nuns and concluded his pastoral visit.
