Moms of Mangalore lights up smiles of hundreds of underprivileged kids on Children’s Day
Getting down to the basics of community caring – Moms of Mangalore lights up smiles of hundreds of underprivileged kids this Children’s Day in association with St Aloysius College (Autonomous) and My RoadRunner
Children’s day every year sees kids dressing up in their favorite attire for school. However, this year, the Children’s Day celebration for some would be a bit different as the year has been a toll on all due to the pandemic. To an increasing number of families around the region, it’s been a tough few month.
MOM Charity boutique, a clothing drive for children and young adults collected close to 2000 pieces of clothes and boxes filled with toys, footwear and other apparels! The clothes were neatly decked on stands to give the kids a shopping mall like experience. The kids in return were given to create a piece of art of their choice with the materials they were provided. The clothes collected were distributed to over 330 under privileged children. Refreshments kept the little ones going as the left with a truck load of experience and a bag full of clothes.
This drive was a partnership with My Road Runner and St Aloysius College. My Road Runner handled the delivery logistics end to end at no cost. The students of St Aloysius college carried out the sorting of thousands of items according to age group, sprucing up the boxes of clothes and ensured the kids got what they wanted.
Dr Vidya Dsouza, professor at St Aloysius College and admin of MOM said “Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference. These children need our love and concern. We might have a lot of unused stuff at our home that have been lying abandoned for years. Instead of throwing them, we could consider delving through old stuff and donating to the underprivileged kids and help in bringing a smile on their face”
Lyvia Cardoza, founder of Moms of Mangalore said “Every child deserves dignity. We are determined to find creative ways to be socially responsible. There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up. Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others. We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. Giving back to the community is important and we are super thankful to everyone who donated”
As this MOM community of 38K members intends to get involved in more social responsibilities in the region while supporting each other through various services it renders through its online group, mothers are encouraged to join this group and make use of the opportunities. They are also called to make a small effort to making a difference in the lives of other mothers and the community at large .Moms from Mangalore and the coastal belt can join the community here https://www.facebook.com/groups/momsofmangalore/
