Prelude to Annual Feast (2022) of Milagres Cathedral, "Maadi Fest" observed.

Udupi, January 08, 2022 :  Prelude to Annual Feast of Our Lady of Miracles, "Madi Fest" was celebrated at the Milagres Cathedral on Friday, 7 January, 2022, which declared open the Annual Feast – 2022 by hoisting the Milagres  Flag. Due to week end lock down restrictions the ceremony was held last evening after the mass.

Madi Fest was celebrated on Sunday before the start of Nine days Novena which commences on the next day i.e. from Monday 10th January 2022. The annual Parish Feast is expected to be celebrated on 19th January 2022.

As per the tradition, since centuries, on account of the annual parish feast, Madi Fest was celebrated by hoisting Our Lady of Milagres Flag in front of the church which was held this year also. The parish Flag this year was hoisted by Very Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector and Vicar of Milagres Cathedral along with Asst. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Vijay D’souza  and Parish Pastoral Council members were present.

The historical Madi Fest tradition has been celebrated by our ancestors since three centuries at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Kallianpur. By local tradition, it is called “Kodi Yeroni” in Tulu language for the preparation of The Annual grand Feast. This traditional custom is celebrated 9 days before with novenas to Our Lady of Miracles. In front of the Church campus, parish flag with a portrait picture of Our Lady of Miracles was hoisted at the top end of an Areca nut tree (Madi) pole. Even after the Milagres Church becomes Cathedral of the Udupi Diocese, the same custom is continued to commemorate the event “Madi Fest”.

Due to week end lock-down the Confraternity Sunday will be celebrated on Friday, 14th January, 2022.

Annual Feast High mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 19th January, 2022. This year the annual feast will be celebrated by all families of Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur.
