Milagres College, ‘Students Welfare Council’ inaugurated with all grace and dignity in the Tri-centenary Hall, Kallianpur.

Milagres Tri-centenary Auditorium was full to its capacity with Milagres College students assembled to witness their leaders taking oath to show, lead and live the path as their youthful representatives taking charge in the newly elected Students Council 2021-22.

Today 8th February, 2022, at 10.30 a.m., the ceremony was given a befitting start with a classic dance performance which was presented by the young women to welcome the gathering followed by a Prayer sung by the melodious College Choir group, ‘O Devare, yee prarthane, olavinda ni aalisu…..’

Emcee’s for this dignified event Ms Moksha Shetty and Mr Om Prasad  took charge and distinguished guests – viz V. Rev Fr. Valerian Mendonca, Rector of the Milagres Cathedral and Correspondent of Milagrean Institutions to preside over the function, Prof Joseph MN the Principal of Sacred Heart College, Madantyar the Investitures, Mr Royston DSouza – proud alumnae of Milagres and presently a practicing Lawyer in Udupi District Court, Principal Dr Vincent Alva, Principal Milagres College, Kallianpur Ms Savitha Kumari, Principal of Milagres Junior College  were escorted to the dais by the Directors of the Students Council Prof Chandrika & Prof Karthik Nayak.

In her well worded Welcome address Mrs Chandrika highlighted the day’s significance and gave a brief introduction of the Chief Guest Dr Joseph NM and others on the stage and presented with bouquets as a mark of respect.

The Oath taking Ceremony was led by the Principal Dr Vincent Alva once light was lamped to herald the inauguration of SWC by Investiture Officer and dignitaries. Principal declared the name of the handsome young poet President of the SWC Mr Jimson DCunha, who was given warm welcome with the thunderous applause by the students’ community and the gathering. Once he took oath the presidential robe was  presented as a mark of his authority as well as responsibility.

Other office bearers of the SWC – Vice President Ms Afreen, Vice President II Bensal, General Secretary Ananya, Joint Secretary Arronha Sports Secretaries Selma Picardo & Nithesh and Cultural Secretary Ancia Fernandes were fixed their name plates with designations by various members of the faculty later took oath and signed documents to express their obedience, respect and honour to the office, the Institution and constitution of SWC during their tenure in office. All the representatives of various classes and divisions were next to take oath holding lightened candles in their hand as a mark of sacrificial, selfless leadership for the welfare of students in this temple of learning.

Colourful College Magazine for the previous Academic year 2020 -21 was formally released by the Guests on this occasion. Prof Sophia Dias the Editor in Charge handed over guest copies to all the dignitaries on the dais.

What followed were three mind blowing talks by three great men on the dais – Investiture Officer Dr Joseph NM was at his scholarly best to keep the youth focussed with serious messages delivering with small dosage of fun but beautiful quotes of Mahatma Gandhi, AB Vajapayee, APJ Abdul Kalam, Swami Vivekananda, Jesus Christ……..as one singular person how they all influenced millions by their living and strength of speech…….. It was a real feast to ears to listen to him as he used Kannada, Hindi and English to awaken the youngsters……He too had volumes of appreciations to the Milagres College and its Principal, students’ fraternity, teachers and management. It was a real honour he told to be midst of you and wished all the very best to the New SWC team led by Mr DCunha….

Prof Loyleeta in her brief introduction of Mr Royton DSouza the young advocate, highlighted his student days in the Milagres College which was followed by a felicitation with traditional shawl and garland and memento…In his dignified reply to the honour called back nostalgic moments in this alma mater which moulded him in a big way what he is today and expressed his happiness and satisfaction to witness the visible manifold progress and improvement of the College.

In his beautiful Presidential speech V. Rev Fr. Valerian Mendon, who had the distinct and passionate attachment to this College, as Lecturer, Vice Principal and Principal at different times in the past, extended his felicitations to the newly sworn in President and his team and all in the SWC to show and go the right way……..He was eloquent to appreciate the whole function arranged so meticulously, especially the electrifying welcome dance and awesome prayer….the speeches by the guests….. to mention a few…..  He asked the students and student leaders  to carry the light of knowledge and imbibe the great qualities of Father of the Nation truthfulness and non-violence….!
Ms Ananya proposed vote of thanks to all who made this event successful, meaningful and memorable one.

Around 12.20 p.m the whole gathering rose to sing national anthem Jana-Gana-Mana to conclude the Investiture ceremony, as all the students were served with sweets, while leaving the venue.
