Udupi : Raghupathy Bhat local MLA said that with the small mistakes done by the officials in land acquisition, we, elected representatives are looking bad by the people. However, tender is not processed due to technical issue. Raghupathy Bhat expressed dissatisfaction over the delay of Manipal Parkala road work.

He was speaking during the monthly common meeting of Udupi City Municipal Council meeting held at Sathyamurthy Hall here on Tuesday, May 24, Raghupathy Bhat said that on the basis of one of the daily newspaper report on delay of road work in Parkala, the delay will be sorted out very soon, I have held discussions with union minister Prahlad Joshi and I appealed to him to send the work order within 45 days, he said.

The meeting was presided over by CMC President Sumithra Nayak. The municipal councilor Vijay Kodavoor asked the officials about the present status of STP plant and the UGD system in Municipal area limit. He said that since three months the bleaching powder was not being put in the STP plant to purify the water. He accused the environment officer about the reason for the delay. In reply to the question and allegation, Sumithra Nayak said that the STP plant problem will be sorted out immediately. The approval at government level has been given for UGD and STP work at a cost of 338 crore. Once grants are released the STP and UGD system will be improved. Due to technical reasons, the plant problem was delayed. Vijay Kodavoor also appealed the officials and the chair to remove the trees that had fallen in the Indrani river.

Some of the ruling members appreciated the efforts done by the MLA for the construction of new Municipal building at old taluk office premises. Raghupathy Bhat said that tender was processed for the demolition of old taluk office building. The new building will be constructed with commercial establishments at a cost of Rs 30 crore on an area of 66,000 to 70,000 square feet.

Opposition leader Ramesh Kanchan said that monsoon season is on the corner to start, but the preparation for the monsoon rains not yet started. Once rain started, it could be difficult to handle works. Ramesh Kanchan as well as Girish Anchan took the engineers of Varahi projects over pending road repair in the city limits.

Manjula Nayak of ruling party asked the MLA on public pressure on construction of service road between Santhekatte Malpe Cross road to Ambagilu junction. Bhat told her that he will speak with Shobha Karandleje MP in regard to this.

CMC vice president Laxmi Manjunath, in the absence of Municipal Commissioner AW of the CMC Yashwant Prabhu was present.
