Kundapur: In connection with illegal sand mining and transportation in Kundapur taluk, Geologist Sandhya of Mines and Geology Department raided two sides early on Wednesday morning and seized 3 tipper lorries.

Under the guidance of Sandeep G., senior geologist of the department, on the complaint received from the public about the unauthorized sand mining and transportation from Souparnika river in the area of ​​Maravante and Badakere village in Kundapur taluk Thrasi, Movadi village and Byndur taluk in the district, accordingly, On Wednesday 21. 2022 at 4: 20 in the morning, Geo Scientist Sandhya conducted a raid at Anagodu, Trasi village of Kundapur taluk and seized a lorry which was parked at the dock for filling sand. In the second case, at 04:45 in the morning, they raided the unauthorized sand mining pit near Arama Temple in Trasi village of Kundapur taluk and seized 2 tipper lorries which were standing in the pit to fill sand. As the unauthorized sand quarries of Thrasi range are being attacked, the unauthorized sand miners in Hakladi, Kavradi, Halnadu, Ampar and Byndur taluk Badakere of Kundapur range have stopped the sand mining and transportation and fled from the place.

During the site inspection, it was found that the road for unauthorized sand mining and transport has been given in some private (patta) lands, and appropriate legal action will be taken against the lessees of such land, the geologist said.

The said lorries which were used for unauthorized transportation of sand have been kept at Gangolli Police Station Supardi until further legal action is taken.
