Udupi: A display of folk & Cultural Feast at the Milagres College
Milagres College, Kallianpur had very special guests in NAAC Peer Team - Prof Sumitra Kukreti, (Chairperson) Pro Vice Chancellor, IGNOU, New Delhi, Prof. Hawa Singh,(Member Coordinator), Kuruskhetra University, Haryana Prof. Joydeep Bhattacharjee, (Member), Principal, Govt College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Quepem, Goa.
After a day of busy schedule of accreditation meetings, presentation and evaluation, at 6.00 pm the students of the College had organised entertainment programme of one hour duration to showcase the rich heritage, unique culture and vibrant talents of its students.
Once Ms Chaitrali of II B.Sc, took charge of the stage as the anchor, the flow of variety that followed kept the guests and audience glued to their seats.
To begin with the Bharata-natyam performance both to seek the blessings of almighty and portray the Lord Krishna’s childhood days, with the swift movements by the troupe of young dancers gave a thrilling start to the programme.
What followed were the singing selected extracts from the folklore Tulu which probably one of the oldest forms of relaxing during agricultural activities and harvesting season. It also had an added attraction to include a Mysore based folksong in Kannada. The melodious voice of all the 11 young women students, with soothing music took the listeners to a different world.
Another form of popular dance was Kangeelu, with the rich attire worn by the perfoming young artists of the College set the stage on fire with spellbound variety of steps and body movements.
On public demand young Safwan, III BA, in his emotionally packed solo singing in Hindi patriotic number, as a tribute to our soldiers was one of the best which received thunderous applause from the spectators.
It was a curious wait for the audience to cherish Chakravyuha, an interesting sequence of scenes from epic Mahabharata in Badagutittu Yakshagana by the mixture of both male and female artists of the College was really wonderful. The supporting team of singers – the Bagavathige, Chande , Shruthi and Thaal too added to exhibit a flawless performance, which naturally made the audience to seek for longer version.
The ultimate and finale was Pili-vesha – as the young tigers and tigers rocked the stage with team of brass band given their best. It was not only a display of unique dance but also culminated with gymnastics and heroic virtues.
As the event was restricted with time schedule, it was time to wind up; however it says the ‘stage is such a place of passionate attraction to both performers and participants’. While sharing the feedback remarks Prof Joydeep Bhattacharjee, praised the whole portray of chosen events exhibiting a class mixture of folklore, art forms and rich culture of the local soil. Yes, it was Pal pal dill ke paas tu rahati ho, an evergreen duet selected from hit movie of 1973, performed over Dharmenda and Rakhee was sung by Mr Bhattacahrjee, took the young and elderly to rewind nostalgic days of romance and music, was a instant hit with his melodious voice.
To conclude the stage programme, the vesting NAAC Chairperson Prof Sumitra Kukreti, applauded the artists, choreographers, supporting team off and on the screen and the Principal and all the teachers for organising such a beautiful cultural event.
In the end, it was with a note of contentment and satisfaction, Principal Dr Vincent Alva, presented couple of lines, from a well-known Kannada poem, to demonstrate the greatness of human heart wherein the God, dwells in, one may call Him in different names………….
The NAAC delegates will continue with visit today too and conclude the exercise with a report after interactions with Management, the Principal and other stakeholders by evening.
