Milagres College Creates Unforgettable Memories with Spectacular Traditional Carnival

Mangalore, July 1, 2023 - Saturday will forever remain etched in the memory of Milagres College students as they embraced a day of vibrant cultural celebration during the highly anticipated Milagres Traditionell Carnival. The campus came alive with a dazzling display of talent, tradition, and values as students cast aside their routine uniforms and adorned themselves in a stunning array of colorful and ethnic attire. The teachers found themselves in a delightful predicament of trying to recognize their students amidst the kaleidoscope of fashion.

The previous day, on College Day, Principal Dr. Vincent Alva had announced that students were granted the rare privilege of dressing in their preferred attire and could remain on the campus until 10:15 am. Surprisingly, on this occasion, the students arrived even earlier than usual, with the boys leading the way. The girls, who were experiencing the novelty of wearing traditional heavy saris for the first time, understandably required more time to prepare.

Unity in diversity was beautifully showcased as the campus transformed into a mesmerizing tapestry of cultures. Students sported outfits representing their home states, symbolic cultural ensembles, unique headgear, and colorful shawls with overcoats. It was truly a sight to behold as the campus allowed cameras, mobile phones, and even video shoots for the day, capturing the essence of this extraordinary event.

The Milagres Tri Centenary Auditorium was the focal point of the celebration for the next three hours. As Principal Dr. Vincent Alva welcomed the students at the entrance, they were amazed by the grandeur inside. The colossal ramp glowed with vibrant lights, accompanied by a magnificent music system and glistening trophies, eagerly awaiting the deserving winners.

Recognizing the importance of cultural awareness and tradition in shaping the identity and self-esteem of the youth, competitions were organized among different classes and divisions. The coveted titles of ’Mr. Traditional Milagrean’ and ’Ms. Traditional Milagrean’ were fiercely contested, with Mr. Rithesh of Final BCom A and Ms. Sheetal of Final BCom B emerging as the deserving winners for the year 2023.

In an interesting twist, the teaching staff actively participated in this year’s Traditional Day celebration. They took to the ramp in pairs, strutting their stuff as their students cheered them on with claps, whistles, and exuberant shouts, breaking all records of classroom seriousness, discipline, and silence. Principal Dr. Vincent Alva led the way, exemplifying the commitment to embracing the festivities wholeheartedly.

The Traditional Day celebration at Milagres College this year was an overwhelming success, reviving the college’s rich values and culture. It fostered relationships, a sense of belonging, and created unforgettable memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Observers noted that it was one of the best ways to reinforce ideals of integrity, freedom, unity, and respect for diverse cultures.

The Students Welfare Council, led by convenors Prof. Karthik Nayak and Dr. Harinakshi MD, along with the Fine Arts Club of Milagres College, left no stone unturned to ensure that the event served as a perfect finale for the academic year 2022-23. Their efforts deserve sincere appreciation and thanks for orchestrating a truly remarkable celebration.
