The art of magic may be effectively used for social purposes, said renowned magic maestro Prof Shankar here today. 

Inaugurating the KathARTis, the daylong activities of Creative Academic Clubs of Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, MAHE, internationally acclaimed magician Prof Shankar said magic need not be merely for entertainment, but it could be used for conveying social messages. He cited his own magical experiments with anti-addiction magic shows. He lauded the students’ activities as a way of going beyond the curriculum. 

Later in the valedictory, molecular physicist Dr Surya Harikrshnan emphasized the need for arts for all science students. Biochemist Dr Sambit Dash stressed the need for platforms for cultural expression for Catharsis. GCPAS Head Prof Varadesh Hiregange explained how the word KathARTis is multilayered: Katha, Art, and Catharsis. It could also be expanded as Kathartist to mean a broader category of artists. The students of GCPAS carried out daylong activities of music, literature, gender, visual arts, peace, cinema, philosophy, sports, ecology, theatre, and dance. Ms Aparna Parameswaran coordinated the activities. 

ಜಾದೂ ಕಲೆಯನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಉದ್ದೇಶಗಳಿಗೂ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಬಳಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಖ್ಯಾತ ಜಾದೂಗಾರ ಪ್ರೊ.ಶಂಕರ್ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಮಾಹೆಯ ಗಾಂಧಿಯನ್ ಸೆಂಟರ್ ಫಾರ್ ಫಿಲಾಸಫಿಕಲ್ ಆರ್ಟ್ಸ್ ಅಂಡ್ ಸೈನ್ಸಸ್‌ನ ’ಕ್ರಿಯೇಟಿವ್ ಅಕಾಡೆಮಿಕ್ ಕ್ಲಬ್‌’ ಗಳ ’ಕಥಾರ್ಟಿಸ್’ (KathARTis) ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಖ್ಯಾತಿಯ ಜಾದೂಗಾರ ಪ್ರೊ.ಶಂಕರ್, ಜಾದೂ ಕೇವಲ ಮನರಂಜನೆಗಾಗಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಸಂದೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ರವಾನಿಸಲು ಬಳಸಬಹುದಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದರು. ಅವರು ವ್ಯಸನ-ವಿರೋಧಿ ಮ್ಯಾಜಿಕ್ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗಳು ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ಮ್ಯಾಜಿಕ್ ಪ್ರಯೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಿದರು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಈ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳು ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿದರು. 

ನಂತರ ನಡೆದ ಸಮಾರೋಪ ಸಮಾರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಲೆಕ್ಯುಲರ್ ಫಿಸಿಸಿಸ್ಟ್ ಡಾ.ಸೂರ್ಯ ಹರಿಕೃಷ್ಣನ್ ಅವರು ವಿಜ್ಞಾನದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಿಗೂ ದೊರಕಬೇಕಾದ ಕಲೆಯ ಅಗತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಬಯೋಕೆಮಿಸ್ಟ್ ಡಾ ಸಂಬಿತ್ ದಾಶ್ ಅವರು ಕಥಾರ್ಸಿಸ್ ಗಾಗಿ ಒದಗಬೇಕಾದ ಸಾಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಕ ವೇದಿಕೆಗಳ ಅಗತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು. ಜಿಸಿಪಿಎಎಸ್ ಮುಖ್ಯಸ್ಥ ಪ್ರೊ.ವರದೇಶ್ ಹಿರೇಗಂಗೆ ಕಥಾ, ಆರ್ಟ್ ಮತ್ತು ಕಥಾರ್ಸಿಸ್ ಎಂಬ ಪದವು ‘ಕಥಾರ್ಟಿಸ್’ ಪದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿಯಾಯಿತು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. ಕಲಾವಿದರ ವಿಶಾಲ ವರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥೈಸಲು ಕಥಾರ್ಟಿಸ್ಟ್ ಎಂದೂ ಇದನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ತರಿಸಬಹುದು ಎಂದರು. ಜಿಸಿಪಿಎಎಸ್ ನ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಸಂಗೀತ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಜೆಂಡರ್, ದೃಶ್ಯ ಕಲೆಗಳು, ಶಾಂತಿ, ಸಿನಿಮಾ, ತತ್ವಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ಕ್ರೀಡೆ, ಪರಿಸರ, ರಂಗಭೂಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ನೃತ್ಯ ಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂದಿಸಿದ ಅನೇಕ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೈಗೊಂಡರು. ಅಪರ್ಣಾ ಪರಮೇಶ್ವರನ್ ಈ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಯೋಜಿಸಿದರು.
