Udupi : The like-minded various organizations organized human chain as a symbol of solidarity on Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday, January 30 on his martyrdom day at Udupi main street from Old KSRTC bus stand. To commemorate Martyrs’ Day, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandi, several organizations were organized a human chain across the State on Thursday to promote brotherhood and unity in the country.

The human chain was formed around 4.30pm prior to brief stage programme organized and the human chain inaugurated with dropping colourful balloons to the air by prominent leaders Very Rev Fr. Charles Menezes, Dean of Udupi deanery of Catholic Udupi diocese, Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MP and minister, Mohd Nejar of Muslim Okkoota and others on the dais.

Balakrishna Shetty of CITU gave introduction speech on to build human chain as a symbol of solidarity on Mahatma Gandhi. He said Mahatma Gandhi has inspired generations to maintain peace and harmony in India and in the world. His vision of rural development is globally acclaimed as a strategy for inclusive growth and collective governance. However, in the present situation in India, the vision of Mahatma Gandhi has completely changed with attaching religious feelings. His simple living and high and high thinking inspired millions of people in the India and abroad including several leaders of the world. Gandhiji devoted his life to the upliftment of the poor, untouchables and the weakest man in the society. But, Gandhi gave up his life to Hindu fundamentalist Nathuram Godse. Today, these groups are celebrating and worshiping of Nathuram Godse, the killer of Mahatma Gandhi.

Very Rev Fr. Charles Menezes and Vinay Kumar Sorake pointed out the reason behind to form human chain on the death anniversary of father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi during their address prior to human chain process.

The human chain began from KSRTC bus stand, heart place of Udupi city to Triveni junction near-by with participation of large number of like- minded people.

Prof. Paniraj, Jayan Malpe, Fr. Herald Perriera, Ronald Almeida, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Hussain Hoode, Ganesh Nergi, Veronica Cornelio, Sundar Master, Dr. Gerald Pinto, Raviraj, Ismail Hussain, Shashidhar Golla, Fr. William Martis, Dayanand Ameen, Ramesh, Rama Karkada, Walter Cyril Pinto, Alphonse D.Costa, Mohd Moula and various organizations leaders were present. The organizations supported the human chain were Dalith Sanghaton United Committee, Muslim Okkoota, Catholic Sabha, JCTU, Bharathiya Christa Okkoota, CITU, Karnataka Region Raitha Sangha, Bharath Jnana Vikas Samithi and others.
