Manipal: The Department of Information and Communication Technology at MIT Manipal, in a grand collaboration with Deutsche Bank and cYAAG Technologies, Bengaluru, successfully launched the 18th edition of the acclaimed workshop, ping 2.0.2.4. This year’s workshop, themed “Next-Gen Banking: Harnessing Gen AI for Financial Services,” commenced on 23rd February 2024, at the Sir M.V. Seminar Hall, MIT Manipal, with a touching floral tribute to the founder, Dr. T.M.A. Pai.

The two-day event was inaugurated in the presence of esteemed dignitaries including Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M.D. Venkatesh, Vice Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Mr. Rajneesh Rai, VP of Infrastructure Architecture & Cloud at Deutsche Bank, Bengaluru, and Ms. Rhea Mahato, Senior Program Manager for Payments at Amazon, Washington, D.C., USA. The ceremony was presided over by Cdr. (Dr.) Anil Rana, Director of MIT Manipal.

Dr. Smitha N Pai, Head of the Department of I&CT, extended a warm welcome to the guests and participants, marking the beginning of an enlightening journey into the future of banking and AI. The event was further graced by the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the igniting of knowledge and wisdom. Senior professor, Dr. Manohara Pai, acknowledged the significant contributions of his colleagues, including Dr. Balachandra, Dr. Preetham Kumar, Dr. Santhosha Rao, among others, in shaping the foundation and future direction of ping 2.0.2.4.

In his keynote address, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M.D. Venkatesh highlighted the transformative potential of AI in banking and beyond, urging participants to leverage AI for the greater good of society. He praised MIT Manipal for its role in nurturing innovation and research in AI. Guest speakers, Mr. Rajneesh Rai and Ms. Rhea Mahato, shared invaluable insights into the use of AI in enhancing customer experiences, optimizing operations, and risk management within the financial sector. They also discussed the current trends, future challenges, and the skills required for the next generation of banking professionals.

Cdr. (Dr.) Anil Rana, in his address, underscored the importance of workshops like ping 2.0.2.4 in fostering learning and innovation. He lauded the concerted effort behind the successful organization of the workshop. The inauguration concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Preetham Kumar, Deputy Registrar-Academics (Technical) at MAHE and Professor in the Department of I&CT at MIT Manipal. 

The workshop, sponsored by SoftPro, Udupi, promises to be a cornerstone event in advancing the understanding and application of AI in financial services, reflecting a collaborative spirit and a shared vision for the future.
