Udupi : The position of women in the society is very revered and special respect has been given to women in the Shastras. Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math said that Indian women have made their ideals known to the world and it should be a task to carry them forward.

The district administration, district panchayat, Women and child development department, district legal services authority, skill development and livelihood department, city municipal council, district and taluk women’s mandals union, district and taluk sthree Shakti union and along with Sri Puttige Math Udupi today at the Sri Krishna matha premises in Rajangana city.

He was inaugurating an awareness program on women-centric legislation as part of the International Women’s Day 2024 held under the auspices of the district.

He said that the role of women in maintaining family harmony is immense and it is the responsibility of men to ensure that they are not disturbed in any way.

He said that violence against women is still going on and there should be an act to prevent it, he said that only when the women’s society becomes aware, the development of the society will be possible.

He said that even though opportunities are being denied to women due to many reasons, they should be encouraged and given opportunities for their growth.

District Collector Dr. K. Vidyakumari presided over the program and spoke. She said in her presiding address that, women have demonstrated their potential by achieving in different fields, despite the celebration of women’s day, women are respected in the society every day.She said it should be available.

She said that women have been fighting for their lives and property and are still subjected to violence and violence. They should be given education and financial independence to create a better life in the future, she said.

Speaking in the program, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority Sharmila said that the government has implemented many laws for the protection of women and they should take advantage of them when they face problems.

Nirmala Kumari, Director of Vaikuntha Baliga Law Vidyalaya, gave lecture on Women’s Equality - Women Focused Legislation, Ramakrishna Campaign Manager of Day Nalm Yojana, and on Women’s Social Security Schemes.

District Narrative Officer of Women and Child Development Department Anuradha Hadimani, District Women and Child Development Officer Veena Vivekananda, Mahila Mandal Union President Sarla Kanchan, District Sthri Shakti Union President Shobha Kalkur, Secretary Prema, Kundapur Taluk Mahila Mandal Union President Radha Das, Karkala Taluk Mahila Mandal Union President Yashodha Shetty, Taluk Mahila Mandal Honorary President Sheela K. Shetty and others were present.
