Udupi : Both the Mangaluru Lok Sabha and Udupi Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha constituencies in support of the deceased Saujanya have started a NOTA vote awareness campaign. About 11 years back, 17 year old SDM College girl was raped and brutally murdered. After 11 years under the leadership of social activist Mahesh Shetty, Thimarodi started fighting to get justice for Saujanya in both the districts. Even though they have been fighting to get justice for Saujanya, both the senior national parties Congress and BJP have not done any justice or support to her. Hence, a NOTA vote awareness campaign started to get justice for Saujana, said Social activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi.

Addressing a press meet held at Udupi Press Club on Wednesday, Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi said that since 11 years any parties who were in power at the state had not tried to get justice for Saujanya and her mother. She was raped massively and then murdered in pieces. Whoever may murder the innocent women, the accused should get punishment. There were several girls, women murdered and other serious criminal activities like extortion, rapes and other held in the district. Due to the corrupt political system and political leaders of all the major political parties not interested in solving the criminal activities, he said.

Therefore, in order to strengthen the democratic system, there should be a NOTA button of EVM to avoid corrupt political persons. Shetty said that all parties are one like the face of one coin. No political party has brought justice to the deceased Saujanya. So there should be a need to give NOTA votes to avoid corrupt political leaders and campaign for vote in the NOTA button of EVM during the election, he said.
