Mangalore Railway samithi proposals to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel before the Railway Budget 2014-15.

Mangalore, June 29, 2014: In a memorandum submitted to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Samithi President Hanumanth Kamath urged to get new trains on the routes such as New Delhi-Mangalore CentralSubrahmanya Road (via Madgaon-Vadodara), Ahmedabad-Madgaon-Mangalore Central, re-introduction of Mangalore Central-Miraj (Maha Laxmi express) to operate between Mangalore and Hubli, Bangalore City-Mangalore Central via Arasikere, Subrahmanya Road-Varanasi (Mangalore Central-PanvelMughalsarai-Allahabad), Vasco-da-Gama to Mangalore Central Passenger service, Subrahmanya Road-Mumbai (via Mangalore Central) and Mangalore Central-ShornurRameshwaram.

[The Detailed Proposals as given below]

RAILWAY BUDGET FOR THE YEAR 2014-15 -RAILWAY PROPOSALS FOR COASTAL KARNATAKA
A) Introduction of new train services :

1.    New Delhi - Mangalore Central - Subrahmanya Road  (via Madgaon-Vadodara)
Subrahamnya Road Station is situated close to the historically important  shrine of Subrahmanya. There are sizeable pilgrims visiting the shrine of Subrahmanya from different parts of the nation throughout the season. Although it is a Road Side Station, it receives and dispatches a pair of Passenger train from Mangalore Central apart from handling a pair of daily Express train viz- Karwar -Yesvantpur Express. Providing connectivity from this station to Delhi via Madgaon-Vadodara-Mathura, would render great help to travelling public of the region besides pilgrims. Presently there is no train service available from this station to north parts of the nation. If Northern Railways starts this service, no maintenance is required at Subrahmanya Road. Coach watering and minor maintenance can be carried out on enroute at Mangalore Central as it is being done for Train no 16523/24 Yesvantpur-Mangalore Central-Karwar Express.
2.Ahmedabad- Madgaon- Mangalore Central Express.

There is much demand to start a train service from Mangalore Central to Ahmedabad since inception of Konkan Railway. Recognizing the need, the Western Railways is operating Holiday special train service viz-09419/09420 Mangalore Junction –Ahmedabad weekly Express during winter and Summer seasons to cater to rush during last three years. The train received good patronage from passengers of all along the route and need to be regularized and ought to be operated from Mangalore Central to Ahmedabad instead of Mangalore Junction for the convenience of Passengers.

3. Reintroduction of  Train no 62045/62035  Mangalore Central - Miraj  (Maha Laxmi Express) and to operate as an overnight train in between Mangalore and  Hubli

During Meter Gauge Regime aforesaid train was operating from Mangalore to Miraj on Hassan-Mangalore section which was connecting coastal part of Karnataka to south interior parts of Karnataka such as Hubli, Dharwar, Belgaum, etc. During the gauge conversion works in between Mangalore –Hassan section the above train service was suspended along with other train services in this route. After opening of Broad-gauge above said line, though other suspended  train services started, the above said train operation was not restored even after the elapse of 7 years of opening up the said line. A vital connectivity is thus delinked. In mean time South Western Railways has operated holiday special train viz-train no 06567 Mangalore-Hubli Express during last year. This rain need to be regularized and initially be operated as tri weekly service in between Mangalore and Hubli and not necessarily  up to  Miraj.

4.. Bangalore City-Mangalore Central Overnight Express via Arasikere :
There is only one overnight train service is available from Mangalore to Bangalore viz- Yesvantpur-Karwar/Kannur Express. The train is operating on circuitous route via Mysore. Further it is unable to cater to the demand of Mangalore side passengers as Pooled Quota is fixed to Mangalore passengers which offers a mere 65 berths. Hence a separate train service in between Mangalore central to Bangalore city may be operated on nearest path via Arasikere.
5. Subrahmanya Road-Varanasi  (via - Mangalore Central - Punvel -Mughalsarai  -Allahabad)
The above train will connect historic places on enroute such as Udupi, Gokarna, Kolluru, Nasik Road, Varanasi etc.
6. Vasco-da-Gama to Mangalore Central Passenger train service :
At present there are 2 pair of express/passenger trains are being run from Mangalore to Madgaon side during morning hours. But on the opposite direction there is no single passenger trains being run from Madgaon to Mangalore central during morning hours. It is therefore requested to operate the above said train to cater to rush.
7.Subrahmany Road-Mumbai (via Mangalore Central) Superfast  A/C  Express ;-
There are sizeable public hailing from in around places of Puttur, Bantwala and Subrahmanya are settled in Mumbai on employment. Presently there is no direct service available from Subrahamnya Road to Mumbai. Hence above service may kindly be provided. Besides, this service will also helpful to the pilgrims.
8. Mangalore Central- Shornur-Rameshwaram Express.
The above train service will connect West Coast city of Mangalore to East Coast historic place of Rameshwaram. On enroute it will connect various tourist places.
B)  Extension of train services
 1. Train No 18048 Vasco-Howrah  Amaravathi  Express  to  Mangalore  Central
 2. Train No 18047 Kacheguda- Vasco- Da- Gama Express to Mangalore
(There is much demand to operate train service from Mangalore to Hyderabad and Howrah. The present trains operating from Mangalore to above said destinations on circuitous path. The nearest path is via Madgaon-Hubli section. But due to ghat section constraints Railways feels constraint to operate new train service in the said route. Hence it is suggested to extend the above train services up to Mangalore Central).
3. Train no 70105/7016 Mangalore central-Bhatkal DMU train service up to Madgaon
4. Train number- 22635/36 Mangalore-Madgaon Intercity Express up to  Hubli
5. Extension of Train number 16603/04 Mangalore Central-Thiruvananathpuram  Maveli Express up to Kanyakumari.
6. Train number 22907 Madgaon – Hapa Express to Mangalore Central.
7. CSTM-Mangalore Junction S/F Express up to Mangalore Central
8. Train no 16515/16 Karwar-Yesvantpur Express to be routed via Mangalore Central  by extending from present Mangalore Junction.
9. Train no 16515/16 Karwar-Yesvantpur Express up to Mysore.
10 Dadar-Madgaon Janshathabdi Express up to Karwar.

C) Frequency Increase :-
1. Train number 16515/16 Yesvantpur-Karwar Express from present tri weekly to Daily
2.Mangalore-Howrah Vivek Express from present weekly to Bi- weekly.

D) Budget allocation for the facilities :
I) On going projects
1.Construction of proposed additional two platforms at Mangalore Central:-
This proposal is submitted to Railway Board by Southern Railways, three years before for the consideration of 17 Crores in Railway Budget.  But Railway board  has  not approved this proposal so far. It is essentially required to have additional platforms at Mangalore  Central  as present  capacity  is saturated and causing  delays  in train operations.

2. Mangalore-Thokur track doubling :-
The track doubling works of  Mangalore- Thokur stretch (21 KMs) of  Mangalore - Mumbai section is progressing on snail’s pace owing to meager allocation of funds. It is estimated  that Rs 120 Crores is  required to  complete this project. It is requested to allocate at least Rs 80 Crors for this project in this year Railway Budget.

3. Shravana Belogala - Bangalore New Broad Guage line. The above proposed line will connect Mangalore –Bangalore-Chennai section on the shortest route and will become an important Railway corridor. Hence Maximum allocation may be done for completing this project.

4.Developing Mangalore Central station at par world class standards. Railway Ministry has identified Mangalore Central station for developing it as World class station. Even though it was announced in the 6 years back Railway budget, no financial provision has been made in the previous budgets to start up the works. In this year Railway Budget allocation is requested for the above works.

5. Budget Allocation for developing proposed Kabaka Puttur as Adarsha Station. Sufficient amount of budget may allocated for developing this station as announced in the previous Railway Budget.
II) New Facilities Sought
1. Developping Subrahmanya Road Station. There are sizeable pilgrims visiting the shrine of Subrahmanya from different parts of the nation. Although it is a Road Side Station it receives and dispatches a pair of Passenger train from Mangalore Central.  Development of Subrahamnya Road station to facilitate Receive and dispatch long distance trains on Konkan Railway Route. The facilities required are developing existing platforms, Raising the level of platforms, Providing Granite flooring, Foot over bridge for accessing second platforms, Providing PRS counters , Coach watering facilities etc.
2. Mangalore Central- Mangalore Junction path doubling. The above said path comprising the length 5 kilometers is partially doubled.  A mere path of 1 kilometer is left for completion. Budget allocation may kindly be made for this proposal so as to facilitate unhindernace train movements from Mangalore Central to Mumbai and vice versa.

Please do not provide Granite flooring on platforms because people will slip and go under the train...
