Thonse: Wall of 125 year old Khandige School collapsed due to rain.

Udupi/Thonse, Aug 4, 2014: The wall of the 125 year old Thonse Khandige Higher Primary school has collapsed this afternoon due to heavy rain and the school children were miraculously escaped because of their alert teachers.

When the teachers saw the cracks in the building this morning they have alerted the panchayat members and shifted the 65 students to another building.

The building wall  collapsed soon due to the heavy rain and wind. Since the children were shifted to another location, a major tragedy was averted. The school is located very close to the sea area.

The Tahashildar, Gram Panchayat Memebrs, Taluk Panchayat members, VA and local leaders visited the spot and promised to do whatever they can to restore the building at the earliest from government fund. According to T M. Rahamathulla Local leader , Panchayat member and Bhaskar Karkera blamed the school administration for their negligence and requested them on behalf of the public to rebuild the school at the earliest and to provide all the required facilities to the poor students of this area who ’s foundation of the future is laid from this school.

Nearby Anganwadi school which need a renovation at the earliest has the funds got sectioned from the government , but the irresponsible officials have not taken up the renovation work , said T. M. Rahamathulla while addressing the press and demanded the officials to wake up and start the renovation work before any major tragedy.

School correspondent Gopal Krishna Hegde, Namitha, Abul Razak and many others were present at the spot.

Udupi: Two fishermen from Padutonse village went missing at Malpe

Udupi, Aug 4: Two fishermen from Padutonse village went missing at Malpe after two trawler boats that had ventured into the sea for fishing activities capsized at around 11.30 am on Sunday.

The missing fishermen are Naveen Salian (34) from Kody Bengre and Tukaram Suvarna (55) from Padutonse Bengre. Dinesh Suvarna, Anand Kundar, Sadhu Salian and Uday Marakala, who survived the accident, are safe.

Naveen, who was adept at swimming, had been into fishing since the lat 15 years. He had married on May 21 this year. Tukaram Suvarna was very poor, and his family lived in a small thatched house that would have collapsed anytime, before shifting its base to a place near Doopadakatte Brahmavar to live in the land owned by some relatives. The family, which has two grown-up daughters, entirely depended on Tukaram for everything.
