Belief in Science in Konkani Literature programme by KKSA at Canara PU College.

Mangalore, Aug 10, 2014: "Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy is running since 1994 and its main aim is to develop our language and culture," said Roy Castelino, KKSA president, addressing a programme on ’Belief in Science in Konkani Literature’ at Canara PU College here on Friday August 8. Two books were released on the occasion.

Roy Castelino in his welcoming speech said, "The countries like, Japan, Italy and China speak their own languages. They do not know English, yet they are developed countries. We, Indians know many languages and still we are under developed."

"There are 28 national languages and all are included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. Konkani language is also a national language. Anyone can speak Konakni in Lok Sabha without any hesitation. If we want to save our culture, we have to speak in Konkani, write in Konkani. For this cause, we have started ’Konkani Mobile Bazar’," he added.

Roy also said that if Canara College started Konkani club then the Konkani students could join together and organize many Konkani programmes.

’Sarnetha’, a book by musician, composer, writer Joel Periera was released by professor Narendra Nayak.

After releasing the book he said, "This is the first Konkani book I read and in this book, there is a part-science and non part-science. History cannot be corrected, but one can learn from it."

Regarding the language, professor Narendra said, "If you know various languages, it is an advantage for you in the society."

’Jnaneshwari’, a book by Madhukar D Chandavarkar was released by Hundi Prabha Kamath. Arun Ubhaykar had represented Madhukar as Madhukar is residing in Mumbai.

Addressing the gathering, Hundi Prabha Kamath said, "Writing is not easy, what you see in society will be depicted in the literature."

A CD by Shekhar Gowda from Bajpe, KKSA member was also released by Roy Castelino during the programme.

Dr Devadas Pai proposed the vote of thanks. M R Kamath compered the ceremony.

George Castelino, Janardhan Pai, Dr Chethan Nayak, Vittory Karkol, Lawrence D’Souza, Eric Ozario, Melwyn Peris, Lullus Cutinha and others were also present during the occasion.
