Two days state level Konkani Sahitya-Samskriti Sammelan Inaugurated in Manipal

Udupi/Manipal, Aug 23, 2014: A Two days of State-level Karnataka Konkani Sahitya-Samskriti Sammelan inaugurated this morning with the flag hosting in Manipal. Nearly 10,000 Konkani-speaking people were expected to participate in the event.

It would bring over 20 communities speaking different dialects of Konkani on a single platform. The sammelan would focus on the development of the literary and cultural aspects of the Konkani communities.

It would be held under the leadership of the former president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Kasaragod Chinna. Konkani literary seminars and plays would be held during the sammelan.

Jayant Kaikini, poet and lyricist, would chair the Konkani poets’ meet. Veteran journalist M.V. Kamath is the president of the sammelan.

An exhibition of Konkani books and CDs would be held. The Konkani communities had a rich and varied cuisine, which would be on display at the Khan Jevan stall.

Some of the Konkani communities would present cultural programmes. Artist Vilas Nayak would present Konkani Rang, while Konkani Swar would be held under the direction of singer Puttur Narasimha Nayak.

Mahalakshmi Shenoy, Sampada Bhat Marballi, M. Ravindra Prabhu, Chaitra D. Gaonvaskar, Nagaraj Shet, Madhusudhan Bhat, Rajesh Bhagwat, Damodar Bhagwat and Sharat Kumar, artistes, would participate in Konkani Swar. A Tabal Tarang cultural programme and Rang Mantap, a play, would be held on the concluding day.

A colourful procession with 15 cultural troupes participating in it would be held from Syndicate Circle to the R.S.B. Bhavan. R.S. Nayak, Manohar Nayak, Venkatesh Baliga, Vandana Shanbhogue, Shantaram Prabhu Nittur, Koni Sheshagiri Nayak, Shantaram Baliga, Sanjeev Patil, Gopal Kharvi and Shivananda Shet would be felicitated.

The venue of the sammelan had been named after the founder of Manipal educational institutions, the late T.M.A. Pai, while the stage had been named after Rashtrakavi Manjeshwar Govinda Pai.
