B. R. Shetty Inaugurates Rangothsava 2014 - Theatre Festival of Kalajagatthu.

Mumbai, Nov 23, 2014: As part of the 35th year of its existence, Kalajagatthu, established in the year 1979, celebrated the day with grandeur and style. The organization devoted to performing arts, especially theatre, has staged a programme known as “Rangothsava” on Sunday, 23rd of November 2014 at the Radhabhai auditorium of the Buntara Bhavana, Kurla, Mumbai.
NRI Entrepreneur, Dr. B. R. Shetty Inagurated the event by lighting the lamp. Vedhamurthy Pernankila Haridass Bhat blessed the occasion and underlined the achievements  of Karnataka Rajyostava award winner,  Thonse Vijaykurmar Shetty, the brain behind Kalajagatthu.  President of Rangothsava 2014 Ikala Harish Shetty presided over the function. Borivli MP Gopal C. Shetty unveiled the souvenir on Thonse Vijaykumar Shetty. Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, President Bunts Sangha, Mumbai,  Prabhakar L. Shetty, Sarvotham Shetty, Abudhabi, E. Harish Shetty, Rathnakar A. Shetty, Nityanand D. Kotian, Dr. Suresh S. Rao Kateel, Thonse Jaykrishna A. Shetty, Jayaram N. Shetty, Manjunath Bannoor, Mr. Latha Jayaram Shetty, Ulthoor Mohandas Shetty and many other were present as chief guests of the event.

Sudhakar Acharya Udupi and group performed the variety entertainment. By performing various characters of himself, thonse Vijay Kurmar Shetty demonstrated his love affection towards the theatre performance and created an entirely new world on a gorgeous platform.

Various past and present executives of Kalajagatthu were present during the event. Karnire Vishwanath Shetty Welcomed the guest with a banquet of flowers, Pushkal Kumar Thonse performed the inaugural prayers. Mira Road artist perfumed the Appe Sithe dance event. Baskar Rai Kukkuvalli and Ashok Pakkala compared the programme. Honorary secretary conveyed the vote of thanks.

About Thonse Vijay Kumar Shetty:

Tonse Vijayakumar Shetty, recipient of Karnataka Rajyotsava Award and a highly talented actor, director, playwright, poet, and organizer par excellence.

Although being recognized as a writer of repute in literary circles, his major interest is playwriting. He has penned over 52 plays in Kannada and Tulu and this number is increasing by the day. This is a record of sorts for an out of state Kannadiga i.e. Horanada Kannadiga.

“Kalajagatthu” the organization founded by Vijayakumar Shetty has engaged itself in performing these plays for the past 35 years. It is amazing that nearly 3000 shows have been performed by a nonprofessional Kannada troupe, in places different from its origin. All these plays have been directed by Shri Vijayakumar Shetty and this itself merits mention in the records book. Besides directing, he has adorned different roles in his many plays and displayed his talent as an accomplished actor. Although repetitive it can be said with certainty that his talent is beyond limits. In addition to playwriting, directing and acting he writes lyrics, composes music and sings them too.  The poet composer in him has written nearly 100 poems and set them to melodious music in his plays.  This achievement is highly praiseworthy and may attract the attention of Guinness Book of Records.

Thonse Vijay Kumar Shetty, a person from a village several hundred miles away from this metropolis, has continuously put in his sustained efforts for the past 35 years, to showcase the folk culture of the Coastal Karnataka,  is becoming 60 years young! All through he has been engaged in pulling the chariot of Tulu and Kannada with utter devotion. Besides this through “Chinnara Bimba” which he has established, he has been able to imbibe our rich language, culture and tradition to children at their impressionable age. Despite doing all this, he has never shown any signs of tiredness. There is hardly any wrinkle on his face, always registers an attractive smile. His humble nature and brimming enthusiasm attracts people in drones towards him

Vijayakumar Shetty was born on 24-11-1954. Today he celebrates his 60th Birthday.
