Tuluvas demand renaming of Mangaluru Airport as Tulunadu International Airport

Mangaluru, Dec 14, : Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota resolved at the valedictory of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba 2014 to demand the Ministry of Civil Aviation to rename Mangaluru International Airport into ’Tulunadu International Airport’.

In a resolution adopted on the third day of World Tulu Festival held in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at Sahyadri Campus in Adyar here on Sunday, the Okkoota also demanded that the process of inclusion of Tulu in Schedule VIII of Indian Constitution should be expedited. For this purpose, they demanded the state government to set up a high level committee headed by chief secretary.

Other major demands in the resolution include objections to Yettinahole project, hazardous industries, revoke ban on Kambala, introduction of Tulu as third language in the curriculum of primary and high schools in Undivided Dakshina Kannada district.

The organisers of Tuluvere Parba including honorary president D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, were planning to hand over the resolution with demands to chief minister Siddaramaih. However, the CM, who was supposed to be the chief guest at the valedictory of the fest, remained absent citing health reason. Following this, the resolution was handed over to minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanath Rai.

Addressing the valedictory programme, Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math said, "Great poets, scholars, and personalities have emerged from this Tulunadu. Madhwacharya has written many of his works in Tulu scriptures. Tulu language is an ancient language of this land."

He further said, "We should preserve our culture, language, and this land. Culture and traditions will continue only if the language is preserved.

"We should see deity in nature. Our land, water, and forests are on the verge of extinct,” he added.
