Doha, Jun 12: Qatar’s 13 Mangalorean singers marched into the semi-finals of Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) Season 5, passing out with flying colors in the auditions held at the Asoka Hall of the Indian Cultural Centre here on Friday June 10, 2016 evening.

Though as per the GVOM rules only 6 singers each from male and female categories were to be selected for the semi-finals, there was a tie in the male category. Hence 6 female singers and 7 male singers qualified for the semi-finals to be held at the Regency Halls, Doha Qatar on September 30 2016.

The program began in the evening at 06.30pm with playing of the MCA anthem, followed by formal introduction of Gulf Voice of Mangalore 2016 by Sandeep Noronha, who also compered the entire event. MCA president Arthur Pias welcomed the participants and the gathering.
The auditions were judged by well-known Konkani singer and composer Veena Rebimbus Pais and Gladson D’Almeida and Agnel Ullas D’Souza. The 3 judges introduced by Sandeep Noronha. President Arthur Pias welcomed them on the dias by handing over the flower bouquets. All the three judges are well known Konkani singers, composers and song writers.

Season 5 of Gulf Voice of Mangalore is being hosted BY Konkani Kutam Bahrain and Aangann Konknnechem Riyadh, with the grand finale to be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain at The Bahrain Cultural Hall on November 11, 2016 (Friday).

The singing contest began and the participants presented various songs written, composed and sung by popular Konkani artists, the audience who applauded after every song. The competitions were held separately for male and female contestants. There were 8 female and 9 male contestants, who are as follows.

Female singers (participants): Anjali Andrade, Pressy D’Sa, Carol D’Souza, Jovita Pereira, Eva Wilma Pinto ,Sunita Maria D’Souza, Jyothi D’Souza and Sarita Mendonca.
 
Male singers (participants): Alphonse D’Silva, Clement Fernandes,Neil D’Silva, Melwin Fernandes , Praveen Kiran Lobo, Wilson Mendonca ,Naveen D’Souza, Naveen Pinto and Jeevan Roshan Sanctis.

Before the results were announced one of the judge Gladson D’Almeida in his speech said that there are no losers in this contest. There are winners and the rest did not win but will have the opportunity to come back strongly next time. He appreciated all the singers for exhibiting their talent.

All the 17 participants were called on the dias to receive the participation certificate from the MCA Advisory Council members Felix Lobo and Wilfred Fernandes and MCA president Arthur Pais.

Finally the waiting moment had come and the results were declared. Top 6 positions in each female and male category were the winners. In male category the 5th position was a tie between two singers and hence both were chosen for the 5th positions.

The total 13 winners (7Male and 6 female) are as follows.

Vote of thanks was proposed by MCA vice president Aloysious D’Souza. The audience were served snacks and drinks in the middle of the program.
