Backdrop of the Trasi accident - Mount Rosary held meeting with Van, Auto Drivers - Framed Guidelines.

Kallianpura, Santhekatte, July 15, 2016: Ever since the terrible accident at Trasi on June 21, which claimed the lives of eight innocent children, the district administration, school authorities, parents, and vehicle drivers have been focusing intensely on the issue of the safety of school children.

The police have not only cracked down on vehicles taking school children to school and back to their homes, but also held meetings to discuss safety issues.

Even the schools have taken the issue of child safety seriously. They arranged meetings of vehicle drivers and organized interactive sessions with parents to create awareness.

Mount Rosary School Administration today held a meeting with members of Auto, Car Owners and Drivers Association and the parents. Various loopholes were discussed, grievances were aired, and suggestions were made at the meeting. School authorities and drivers agreed to work collectively for the safety of school children.

Some of the guidelines framed by the school administration are:

1. All vehicles bringing the children to enter the main gate, drop the children near the school,  to take U turn in front of the church . At any cost no vehicles to cross the interlocked road and enter the school ground.  No vehicle will be allowed to drop the children and go back from the main gate. This rule applies even for those private vehicles that drop their children.

2. The vehicles who bring LKG, UKG and other kids also to follow the above rule and to park the vehicles at the allotted space and to drop the kids till their classes. Parking lots will be marked as
a) Mini bus/Tempo
b) Auto/Cars and
C) Parents Vehicles

3. All pick-up vehicles need to park at their allotted space, board the children and stay until the school main gate gets open to exit for all vehicles together one by one. Two wheelers, autos and parents vehicles to exit only from the gate towards Kemmannu Main Road.

4. No overtaking and banging of horn is allowed inside the church compound and on the main road.

5. All vehicles to follow all traffic norms, to obtain clearance certificate from RTO, Mini Buses and tempos to have compulsory conductors and at any cost not to use any child as conductors.

6. One vehicle to operate only one trip and for any reasons they will not be allowed to make two trips.  Vehicles to maintain allowed number of children per vehicles.

7. As per the government norms all vehicles who ferry the children must register their vehicles names, number, driver/owners name and the mobile numbers with the school authorities.

8. All vehicle owners/Drivers must have a list of all the children in their vehicles along with the parents name and mobile numbers. A copy of the said list needs to be submitted to the school administration.

9. Regular checking of vehicles is a must and old vehicles of above 15 years will not be allowed to ferry the children.

10. Vehicles to have First Aid Kits and those vehicles which use LPG kits not to have seating arrangements on top of the LPG Kits.

11. Those kids who were left behind for any reasons at the time of pick-ups must be picked later only by parents/drivers.

12. Vehicle drivers/owners need to call the school administration at Mob: 9481217166 after they drop all the children to their homes.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Nery Aranha while chairing the meeting underlined the importance of such rules and regulations for the safety of children. School Headmistress, Representatives from Auto, Tempo/Van Owners/Drivers association, parents, school and church administration representatives were present during the meeting.
