Print Mumbai Police to Provide Security to Threatened Pakistani Actors, Artists
Mumbai police will provide security to actors from Pakistan and elsewhere living in the city after they received threats from a Hindu right wing party.
New Delhi (Sputnik) — “All foreign nationals, who are in Mumbai on valid documents provided by the government of India, need not worry. We will provide adequate protection as and when required,” Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner of Police told reporters. In the aftermath of the terror attack in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir, a Hindu right wing political party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) demanded that actors and artists from Pakistan to leave India as a mark of protest against Pakistan on Friday.
“We give a 48-hours deadline to Pakistani actors and artists to leave India or MNS will push them out,” Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Amey Khopkar said in a statement. Police have alerted all the stations in Mumbai and are keeping a close watch on anti-social elements.
In fact, the heightening tension between India and Pakistan allows such right wing parties to propagate their agenda, and it’s not a new phenomenon. Several Pakistani actors such as Fawad Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Ali Zafar and Mahira Khan have recently made India their home and had acted in various Hindi movies.
