The Nativity of our Lady’s feast is celebrated in a traditional style here in the coastal region of Karnataka in India. The grains of the new crop have significance and on the feast day the farmers collect the new grain crops of rice from the paddy fields and bring to the church to be blessed before feast Mass service.
To be a part of the celebration for the blessing, the major task is to find where the new harvest is ready to pick from.
Irody a village in Sastan near Bramavar is very famous a devotional catholic family is the answer since 25 years this family have the crop standing ready for the feast. Mrs Veronic the head of the family here herself indulged in the farmer’s activity says I have my paddy field here for you O Lord bless my family. She is ready to give this for most of the parishes that come to her requesting, she gives generously a lot of the crop for free.
We considered fortunate this year as the delay in monsoon effected most of the region.
