very good Aaron, nice atricle, its looks very very dirty , some people washed their hands by trowing the dirt in the river, but the real problem faced by the people who staying near the river side,is not only polluted the water but also driven the fish from the kemmannu river, we the sons and the daughters of kemmannu must take the initiative.

We all are with you, god bless u.

Funny isnt it!
Apart from almost every household throwing thrash in the river and residents on the river banks not realising the mess turning a blind eye ... Most of them also have their sewers flowing into the river. All your fish gets to eat is some Human Excreta! Does anyone want to talk about that. It doesnt cost much to build a septic tank.Yes Garbage, plastics, waste all gets thrown in the river. Dredging which is an open secret gets unreported. Sand has disappeared!

We love to talk but thats what internet is meant for. Yap Yap but dont action.

According to me, our local youth groups and schools have to take initiative to educate the people. Each house has to keep 4 dustbins- one for degradable bio waste, one for plastics, one for metals and one for glass/bottles. We have to arrange a vehicle for this segregated waste collection from every house on every alternate days. Nominal money from every house/ hotel/shop has to be collected for managing the waste.

One tonne of compostable waste gives 150 Kg of compost….. good organic manure. So, we can generate organic manure locally.

If concrete block or interlock industry can use glass, replacing sand in some percentage, glass waste problem can be solved.

Metal has resale value. Our local scarp dealers (gujri people) will surely help in managing this waste.

Plastic bags and bottles- we have to reduce its usage as much as possible. Inevitably used plastic things has to be collected and managed its dispose with Gujri people’s help.

Very good article Aaron and appreciate your efforts.

It is really pity that some people are dumping waste in the river and causing damage to the nature.

Awareness is important and we must educate our people not to dump waste in the river for our existence. Problem is some people are not aware of the consequences.

So loving of nature and bringing awareness and education to people through article. We do our bit by composing kitchen waste from many years. Use it for our pots every week.

I wish everyone takes a cue from this article and cares for the nature and a clean environment.

The river where our parents use to wash cloth during monsoon season as water used be sweet and summer salt water we learnt swimming. What we left for our this generation is stinky river.

Hats off Ambrose team who have taken initiative and intention of clean swarna.

Hope SWARNA will be clean one day.

The main culprit is no space to dispose waste at this place. If the waste is segregated and stored there would be a commercial value for the product.

I would like to suggest two simple ways to over come plastic and alcohol bottles for the time being.

1. Provide bins at "gujiri collectors" and write plastic bottles/material collected here. Gujri person would get some benefit out of it.

2. Alcohol sellers should provide bins for the empty bottles irrespective of where bottle is bought. Local govt. Bodies should not renew the licenses unless seller don’t provide this facility.

Even if a small percentage of waste goes through this method that would be a large help to the society.

Great article on awareness regarding the environment by Aron.

The little Swarna river around Kemmannu is one of the tributary though geographically the river Swarna is vast spreading about 3500 acres! From the mountains of Agumbe till the estuary in Kodi Bengre.

The most polluted part of this river is from the Padukudru bridge till Honnappa kudru via Nadukudru as two bridges built to connect hinder the water flow thus all the garbage dumped stagnates.

Slogan by Sadguru

This is not a protest. This is not an agitation.
This is a campaign to raise awareness that our rivers are depleting. Everyone who consumes water must Rally For Rivers."

Alex Lewis, Kallianpur, Abu Dhabi

Recently, we had a discussion in our group about River Swarna.

During the discussion I came to know that youngsters like Raising Stars, Kemmannites will join hands with local groups, rotary etc and planning a clean-up drive. I pray and hope this will happen soon.

Also there were some suggestions like:

1) To install garbage bins at a distance of every 500 mtrs.

2) Collection everyday or at least alternate days.

3) Wet garbage.... to convert into compost as they do in Mumbai.

4) Dry garbage..... Dispose it into the above bins provided by Panchayat/Municipality.

5) Educate each household to have a dumping area where they can burn/dump things like paper/coconut tree leaves etc... Plastic, glass etc they can throw in the above dust bins.

Aaron I hope this timely article will generate more interest among the people to care for the environment. Keep it up and God Bless..

Water pollution is increasing day by day .If all of us contribute to save water resource and prevent pollution then we no need to face any problem in future. It is still not too late to act, but it depends on us, whether we chose to conserve the beauty of our planet or not. Let everybody understand the problem of swarna.Keep it up Aaron.
