Yes Sadik, Only the people involved and their families know the pain and trauma suffered by them. As you said the media who made it front page article have little coverage of their release. No amount of sympathy or compensation can heal the deep wound suffered by these two guys. Beware, this may not be the end of the story, Govt may go to high court or supreme court and keep them tangled in legal issues for their life time.

Jossey, it’s not about look beyond coconut but to look at the roots. Like you, I worked abroad for many years and always enjoyed a 3 star comfort at my work place. Initially I enjoyed it but later realized that this is not my place. Bought a house at Mumbai, still not happy, decided to come back to Kemmannu and settled here. Beyond a point money is not everything. The joy of living with the people whom we know, getting recognition for little things we do, go fishing, visiting the beach, spending the evening with the friends, helping the poor people who are in need of help these things you may not get if you choose a alien place.
I still enjoy the company of the people who are not so privileged, go to the local ‘Gadang’ and have a drink with them, have tea with them, listen to them patiently and enjoy the happiness in their eyes when I patiently hear to them.
Not only me there are several well to do people, who are into agriculture not because of money but for the pleasure they get out of it. If you are happy about the path you have chosen, I am happy about the way I have chosen. Let all be happy, that is life for us, which is short but we are the one who make it sweet.

CDS, I know our Kemmannu guys cannot think beyond coconut. The world is changing along with patterns of global consumption. If we still insist on producing what the world does not need any more we are like “apne pair par kulhadi marna” and then we complain that there are no takers for our produce. I guess we have to think out of the box and look at alternatives.........

F. Rodrigues, don’t be disheartened by the coconut prices prevailing at present. Rice was sold for 20 rupees last year and is rupees 35 per Kg this year. I still water and manure my coconut tree and worship it like "Kalpavrksha" because when I was a child my father used to say "One coconut tree can feed on member of the family" and I predict the same will come true in the near future, if not in my life time may be my sons.
