Bangalore, Aug.24:  Christian Leaders meeting the Chief Minister for follow up on Christian Development Board, Appointment of Chairman & Members, and soon withdrawal of cases against Christians.

Ronald Colaco, Chairman of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) led a delegation of various Christian personalities and met the incumbent Chief Minister Shri D.V Sadananda Gowda Today at 10.30 am at his official residence “Krishna” to Congratulate him on becoming (ever smiling) Chief Minister of Karnataka and at the time to place before him certain pressing demands of IFKCA.

Higher Education Minister Dr. V.S Acharya was also present during the meeting.

Colaco submitted a memorandum wishing the Chief Minister to further enhance an all-round development of the State in the field of infrastructure, education, economic, social, cultural and at the same time to create a good environment for communal harmony among the cross sections of the society, under his stewardship.

The memorandum included the request for constituting a Christian Development Board, appointment of a Chairman and 12 members giving due representation to different denominations of the Christian community and regions on priority basis, since 5 months have lapsed following the allocation of INR 50 Crores even though, at present, there is a provision to disburse this amount through minority development board.

The memorandum also urged Chief Minister to instruct all concerned departments to expedite the process of submitting the recommendation of withdrawal of cases against unfortunate Christian youth, following the Church attacks in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and other districts, for cabinet approval.

Colaco explained to the Chief Minister that they (IFKCA) have been following up on this matter since February 7th 2009 for two and a half years by meeting Chief Minister on 4 occasions, Home Minister on 5 occasions, Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya on several occasions, Principal Secretary on 3 occasions, apart from concerned Police Commissioner, IGP and various jurisdictional Police Stations. Sincere Request was also made to the former Chief Minister during Shri L. K. Advani’s attendance to the Konkani programme at Mangalore. As a result, the files pertaining to the cases have been dispatched from the Office of the Mangalore City Police Commissioner on 5th April 2011 and at present, are under process in the Office of Additional DGP - Law and Order, Bengaluru. Therefore Colaco requested CM to intervene and expedite the process further to reach its logical end.

Chief Minister after hearing the delegation stated that he shall ensure the withdrawal of cases through cabinet approval on priority basis. He stated that it is painful to hear every time the unfortunate churches attack is connected to BJP even though their party never indulged in such heinous act. He said some people of vested interest joining Mahindra Kumar tried to tarnish the BJP image and now he has joined JDS.

Chief Minister promised the delegation that he shall constitute the Christian Development Board very soon so as not to lose any more time and appoint suitable Chairman and members from the Christian community giving due representation to regions and sizeable different denominations of the community.

The Christian delegation comprised Grace Pinto, Managing Director of Ryan International Group, Christian Leader Felix D’souzaTaccode, Konkani Catholic Federation President Valerian Fernandes, IFKCA General Secretary Michael Baptist, State Convener Dennis D’silva, other Christian Leaders RonsBantwal, Arun Mendes,Charles Gomes, Stephen Mendes, Nigel Colaco, Florence Mendes,Anil Rego, Ida D’cunha, Agnes D’souza, Udupi IFKCA President Louis Lobo, Vice president PrashantJathanna Stanley K and JoylasTaccode.
