Bantwal, June, 2012: No one knows why the time has not come to broaden the city roads at Vittal, near here.  The assurances given in the past by all Deputy Commissioners who had taken charge of Dakshina Kannada has not been realized so far.

Despite the town council has been planning to broaden the roads in Vittal, the works have not been carried out in widening the heavily congested intersection.  The traffic snarls indeed are causing hardship to motorists, pedestrians and shopkeepers.  The past Deputy Commissioner Ponnuraj offered the assurances of beginning the works within 15 days during his two visits.  Nonetheless, a few shopkeepers voluntarily vacated their shops in order to pave way for beginning works at the earliest, while the district administration has not taken any concrete steps in this regard.

The new Deputy Commissioner Dr Chennappa Gowda, during his recent visit, addressing the media said that 3 influential shopkeepers are adamant on vacating their shops that had to be demolished for broadening of road works.  Meanwhile, the district administration will convene a meeting with people’s representatives, department officials and shopkeepers, as soon as code of conduct on legislative council polls gets over on Thursday June 14.  However, the people still find hard to believe Dr Chennappa, as all Deputy Commissioners were generous of their assurances in the past.  Meanwhile, the time will tell whether the plans get headway or not!

In the recent days there is a move to widen the roads in the town. Shop owners and citizens of the town have supported the cause and hence we may hope a new and good looking vittal city will come up in few months.

Dear all, as per Town planning rules you have to leave a margin of around 40 feats to the roads, you need to put it in legal writing and hand it over to the concerned authorities. How many of us ready to do it who are having a complex in in the vicinity of the roads.

Self-pride needed for happy living. No point in feeling jealous on others.

Why not find a new route around that congested complex? The highways did not go through Udupi city complex, but were laid around the city.
