Thousands celebrate Monthi fest at St. Mary’s Dubai.

Dubai, September 7, 2012: The Konkani Community of St. Mary’s Church celebrated the feast of the nativity of our Lady (Locally known as Monthi Fest) in a traditional way on 6th of September evening at St. Mary’s Church, Dubai.

The celebration started with the Showering of Flowers by the little ones in front of Grotto at 7.45 PM and venerated Mother Mary to the accompaniment of hymns Sokkad Sangatha Melyan and Moriyek Hogolsiya. Which followed by a High Mass at the church at 8.00PM Celebrated by  Rev. Fr. Peter Noronha from Mangalore, Rev Fr. Frank Gomes, Assistant Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Dubai and the spiritual director of Kokani community and Visiting Priest Fr. Gomes from Mangalore.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Tomasito made a brief visit before the start of high mass and thanked Fr. Peter for preparing the Konkani community through a retreat in Konkani from 3rd September till the 5th September, 2012 and wished all the Konkani community a blessed feast of mother Mary.Fr. Peter in his homily during the mass explained the importance of a happy family and called upon the congregation to spread the message of love starting through living a life filled with love among our own family members.

A Cultural programme was held after the mass at the main hall and a delicious traditional vegetarian dinner was served by Canara Reasturarant.  Arun D’souza, Konkani Liturgical coordinator overlooked all the arrangement of the celebration including the Free Dinner to all who attended the celebration. The volunteers of St. Mary’s Volunteer Sodality led by Mr. Ronald D’cunnha ensured the discipline throughout the celebration.

An enormous crowd of 5000+ gathered in and around the church to venerate Mother Mary on this blessed day. Traditionally the Feast back home in Mangalore is celebrated on the 8th of September.

How come the Nativity Feast celebrated on 6th September in Dubai.Our Tradition says feast is on the 8th. Its better to celebrate on 8th or anytime after 8th. Anyway Happy Feast to All
