Kallianpura: The St Lawrence ward community of Mount Rosary Parish Kallianpura had an opportunity to enjoy the nature when they planned and set out a picnic day to the nearest waterfalls Jumlu in Santhekatte. Children of the ward were excited for the adventure on hearing the picnic and adults were happy to cook and get delicious dishes foreseeing a fun filled day out. Our bus and vehicles were ready to pick up the passengers at 10 am on 19th of September.

Every house hold carried their own dishes for the lunch including fruits and drinks. The singing inside the bus made us joyous while the bus drive that continued till Petri and further up country road winding through forest land made our city children enjoy watching trees, paddy fields and mountains from the bus window. We reached a place called Bande Kallu Vihara (Rock hill point) about 2 km before Jumlu, here we saw the big rock that had a huge flat surface to relax and view the valley below and gaze the mountain a far. After having spent 15 minutes on the huge rock taking pictures and video we hurriedly left Rock hill point. and proceeded towards the much interesting.

JUMLU WATER FALLS. Oh! we got into the ditch just before our distination as our bus tyre stuck on the mud road, our smart children gave a push and were happy encountering such a situation although we needed some adventure. It was sheer joy after discovering the Jumlu falls and the roaring sound of water that dashed swirled and danced on the rocks in a swift flowing river down the Western Ghats of Agumbe. This river is Sita flows down and courses about 60 Km from the mountains forests villages fields coconut plantations and meets the Estuary Alave of Arabian Sea at Hangarkatte Kodi Bengre of Kemmannu on the way this river passes through Someshwara,Hebri, Kokkarne, Mandarthi, Barkuru, Mabukala, Sastan, Irody, Haradi and Hangarkette Kodi bengre in Kemmannu.

Small trekking seemed easy and comfortable for us to search for a flat surface on rocks to settle down on the river bank. The women a bit uncomfortable to climb were helped by men. Every one managed to carry the bags and back packs that contained food and supply of lunch items. After spending some time relaxing, talking about the sorroundings of this beautiful nature of God’s creation and the Mother Nature, women began to warm up the food and cut salad, Mrs Rosy, Jessy, Pressy, Lata, Linet, Judy and Beena prepared tasty salads while others arranged the food and served refreshments.

Mr Stany Rebello prayed Grace before meal and thanked God for this occasion of St Lawrence ward members being conglomerated in his presence. Enjoying the meal cooked by ward women was much tastier than one could imagine the Joy of everyone was increased when Fr Philip Neri arrived at the Lunch time and joined us. He exclaimed this is real great place for a picnic as all elements of nature combined with Air, Fauna, Flora, Aqua and the Sky amidst the forest near to the Someshwar wildlife sanctuary. Our small children loved more than any one by having the dip in cool water of Sita River at Jumlu falls.

The time elapsed very soon collecting lots of memories and pictures of the beautiful environment we all set to go back and drove off. To our surprise we encountered the real wild animals, a herd of five deer’s grazing on the Jumlu tracks delighted us! Oh dear what a beautiful day it was! We have decided to go again on a picnic in October all the members are now young and filled with spirit of adventure and ready to discover Nature visiting places of interest. The lesson we learn from the nature is of more appraise than a city. It is wise to give importance for such picnics where we rejuvenate children to learn and elders get peace.
