Trasi, June 18, 2013: Sea erosion, a recurring problem in Coastal Karnataka during the rainy season once again intensified, there are reports of sea erosion from Mangalore till Kundapur.

In Kundapur the sea erosion has increased at the trasi beach park, one side of the wall here got damaged trees are uprooted and 150 meters long park is in danger. Local MLA Gopal Poojary has visited the spot and activated the government mechanism to protect the area from further damage. CSP Inspector Taranaath, Gangolli Police station ASI Babu and other officials also visited the Spot.  The pictures of Trasi Beach Park as seen on the 18th of June 2013.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Urban Development and also the minister in-charge of Udupi District, Vinay Kumar Sorake visited the sea erosion affected areas of Katapadi Mattu, Padukere on Saturday June 15. According to Mr. Sorake  Sea erosion is a recurring problem in Coastal Karnataka, especially in Udupi district. Steps would be taken to chalk out a scheme for a permanent solution to the problem in the Coastal line. A comprehensive project worth Rs 192 crores, with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the money has already been released. Starting the project during the monsoon is difficult. The project will be launched after the rainy season. To control the erosion and save roads, Agricultural land and houses, work will start from June 16. A 10 crore proposal for temporary work has been submitted to the Chief Minister to prevent sea erosion.

Sea erosion has also increased in Padukere and Hoode areas of Udupi taluk. A number of coconut trees have been washed away by the waves.
